Morning all from bright and cheery rural France. Although the sun is shining on the tall ash tree down the lane, it is much lower in the sky now, and has not risen from behind the tall barn to the east. There is also a heavy dew, all signs that autumn is really here, although the forecast temperatures for the rest of the week suggest it will be more like summer in the UK.
Morning all. A beautiful warm day without a cloud in the sky or any breeze to blow some this way. I have adopted the French routine of when being told a price you think is high, "to suck your teeth". A strange expression quite difficult to describe, but everyone here knows what it means. Some repair work required on the car, so I gave the man at the garage my best shot at it, resulting in a 10% reduction, enough to keep the wine store full for several months, or one extremely good bottle.
HAhahahah we do that here too! I guess it gives a sound of shock without being rude, like saying "How f_____ much?" When we need to get things done here, I get hidden and the Mrs negotiates - she says it reduces the chance of foreigner "tax" by 100%!
I suspect it originates from a habit we tight Scots have. When told how much something costs, if we think it excessive we noisily suck in through our teeth and follow that with a "no no no nooo". According to my wife, I do it a lot & it's why she hates going shopping with me.
On the way home from work this evening, I found the usual traffic jam - but for an unusual reason. There had been a truck taking glass to be recycled and some had fallen off the back. I don't know what had caused it, because I only got there when they were in the process of clearing up.
Canary hope your guys have recovered from 120 mins against Arsenal. Should be a great game against Derby on Saturday with both teams on great runs in the champonship. And the canaries owe one to their home fans as the best form seems to be on the road (now that sounds familiar ) For the 'orns see Pereyra is out against Stoke but at least his knee injury is not as bad as first thought. Fresher 26C today expected here in Cadiz and without a cloud in the sky I see no reason why the forecast should be wrong. Enjoy
80 minutes later and it's still too dark here to tell... Although, being Scotland, I could easily predict...
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-41780116 Catalans declare Independence. The very best of luck to them - but I think they'll need more than one of these when Spain unleashes its 'dogs of war' on them...
Sadly, but we are drinking Cava in their honour. The whole idea is stupid but when I see the crap that is Spain I share their frustration and understand. Quite what Rajoy can do and/or will do remain to be seen. It is ok saying your taking over but with what. BB, your the new head of Catalan police. Just hop over there tomorrow and introduce yourself. I'm sure they'll give you a nice welcome.
The most dramatic news to hit this part of the world today is that a family of four are in hospital having eaten the wrong mushrooms. The damp warm weather has brought them up like, well mushrooms, and there are so many that are good to eat, but some you really shouldn't try.
You'd think that, in this day and age, they'd work out how to grow them with a built-in government health warning and/or name label...
Morning all from Jersey - looks like it's been raining overnight again. Dave - did you hear about the rumour that your game at Arsenal and the Man C v Wolves games could be replayed due to the PL sides using too may subs in ET? I wouldn't get your hopes up though as I read it on the BBC Football gossip column and the source was the Sun...
It was mentioned by several pundits but there has been no other mention of it. I dare say, if we had broken that rule and won the game we would have been thrown out by now!
