First car was red. My mum gave it to me when she bought a new one. Current car is black. Mrs Stan's car is a kind of darkish grey. I suspect the manufacturer gave it a fancy name like Contoured Anthracite Grey. Her car is fancier than mine as she likes to have a nice car.

I drove old bangers for years. I had a rule of never spending more than £500 for a car and I was always the last owner before it went to the scrappy. Somebody lent me a Golf TDI a few years back though and it changed my outlook. Finally a car that could overtake other cars, didn’t leak, didn’t break down, all the buttons worked etc. I’ve had a few decent cars since then. Nothing crazy expensive, my cars are usually around 7-10 years old when I get them. I’ve got a VW Touareg at the moment. When those ****ers were new they were marketed at a luxury SUV and sold for £40k upwards. I paid £3.5k for an 06 plate one and it’s like driving around in a 5 star hotel.
Yep nice motor. Based on the same chassis and running gear as a Porsche Cayenne, without the Porsche price tag !
Yep crazy prices when new. I’d never buy a new car or get one on finance, basically chucking money down the drain. I got the Touareg as I need a 4x4 with a load carrying space for my business and to get to a few surf spots that are off the beaten track. Also needs to be a family car and have room for the dog. It’s a good all rounder
Only thing about buying what were once expensive cars secondhand is when they go wrong. Years ago I had a secondhand Jensen Interceptor. Great car, until things started to go wrong. New starter motor? - How ****ing much!!?.? Fortunately, I learnt I could buy the same parts from The American Car Centre in Kingston, at about a quarter of the prices Jensen were charging!
True. Although my Touareg has the same engine as a 2.5 VW T5 so engine parts are cheap. The air suspension and front and rear diff though I shudder to think what it would cost to put right. I tend to use eBay for second hand parts and get my mate who’s and Audi/vw mechanic to fix stuff for me.
I used to have a VW T25 campervan with the 2.1 injection engine and crap 5 speed box. Good until the gearbox died, cost a few ££££ to fix
Didn't they have something like a 6litre engine. When I was an apprentice, one of the lads at college had one that his old man gave him. Can you imagine a 17 year old trying to get insurance on one of those now?
Yep. Chrysler 7.2 litre V8 with Chrysler Torqueflite transmission. If you put your foot down at the lights on a wet day, you’d still be sitting there now!. Could be a real handful in the wet, seriously.,..
