Owen was playing for the 1st team at 17, why not Brewster.

If we were Germany the under 17 team would be brought through as a unit, give or take the odd player, and know exactly how each played after playing together for years. We will be lucky to see two of the current under 17 team make full England debuts, something is seriously wrong with our international selections.

Brewster was poached by us at 15 from Chelsea. He only turned 17 last april. he got to the bench .. last season.

He's been with gerrard and gone to world cup.

Who knows if He's good enough.

"who knows if he's good enough", same question could have been and probably was asked of Owen by the manager back then, he was good enough and the rest is history.
Like Roger said give the kid a chance in the cup.

I think we played Owen to often, to young which was why he suffered so many injuries. A young player has to be nursed until their bodies have matured, an early niggling injury can shorten their career substantially.

Having said that there is no reason why Brewster can't be in the FA cup squad

Wasn't suggesting he would start. Off the bench for the last 5-10mins

Show him the rewards for working hard and playing well by giving him a taste of 1st team action.

Sure ok.. why not.

The draw has to be kind to us to allow it.

Owen got last day game type thing when we had as usual ****ed the league. Brewster made a cup bench last year. No reason to think he can't again.

Yeah, you're right, but if he's playing on average only 1-2 games a fortnight as things are it wouldn't hurt to give him a cameo role for the first team in the cup and involvement with first team players would imo put him in good stead for the future but without the burnout.

Well in the end there are huge opportunities for him from now til then.

U19 champions league.
U18s
U23s get Ings out of there.

There's plenty to keep him developing until a 10min spin v a lower league team (if the draw is kind to us at all)

He's a next year project lads.

Remember klopp is using cl to bring on taa. Grujic, ejaria, Solanke all want a game. Harry Wilson is bavk and scoring in u23s again. Woodburnnis totally forgotten at 18 lol.

Gomez is being discussed for cb.....

There's plenty to work on so without an u17 England player bring propelled to dizzying heights too soon.

But, our owners policy is to promote youth and to purchase younger players, do you think we promote enough of our youth players?

Our youths or someone else's youths?

The reality is a large proportion of the successes have been purchased kids. And success in theory could be measured in sell on fee.

Our own local players have not been good enough... and compared to 4/5 other clubs youth they are not even comparable. Chelsea, city, Utd, spurs for example.

Taa is decent, rapidly developing. Woodburn is good but needs games to develop.

Gomez, ejaria, solanke, grujic. Variable but all signed. Brewster is signed in.

There's a few others in the u18s of both types that are not bad for the age.

The reality is however if we said right 5 kids in that's it and we are 8th there would be hell to pay.

Yeah mito, I meant our youth, if we're going to spend big money on not so brilliant players, it would make more sense to spend big on a couple of well known proven players and bring youth through, otherwise what's the point of having them if we're only going to sell them on when they reach maturity in football terms.
FSG have sold on some youngsters who've come good at their new clubs, so is the money more important than promoting from the youth system?

Your guess is as good as mine.

Woodburn just signed a new long term deal but how long isn't specified.

How do we know he is playing well and working hard in training? He might be getting dominated by the likes of Klavan, Lovren & Matip in training?

Youth team performances obviously mean very little to the current management, otherwise Harry Wilson would've been given a chance ages ago.
