Its ironic that Englands most successful period in youth football is occurring at the same time as probably the lowest point ifor the senior team.
Think what people forget is that it takes time for youth initiatives to take effect, so because the current England players (or at least the older ones and the ones who have been playing for the last 5+ years) are products from the old systems that were in place.
The stuff that was put into place 5-10 years ago is starting to show dividends at the Youth levels, its going to be 4-5 more years before it starts to have an effect on the senior team in a proper way.

Of course this only works if the youth players get a chance to play in the PL and are able to make that jump from Youth to Senior football (which not all can do)

Given how poor our Strikers are (Firmino is not a striker) Would it be worth taking a look at Brewster when he comes back, maybe in the FA cup?
Plays like a young Sturridge, before all the injuries wiped out his pace and sharpness.

Those players at Liverpool, Arsenal, Tottenham, Everton, etc. will get chances in the first team if they keep their progression going with their clubs and their form merits it. Unfortunately, Chelsea and Citeh have half of the talent pool at every level and have no such intention.

If we lose half of our talented youngsters every year then we are stuffed as a nation.

**** that. 3 - 0 Brewster again. Eng - er - land, Eng - er - land, Eng - er - land.

Have to say think this bunch look better than the U20 WC winning team.
Foden looks really good but will need to leave Man City just like Jadon Sancho (sp) to get game time

If Germany or Brazil had produced the returns from these tournaments that England have, we would be creaming ourselves over those results. We would be taking about years of future dominance. Anyone in this country want to say that?

I would doubt it. If these kids got the first team chances that their opponents get.............well, we wouldn't be looking at going out against Iceland or in the group stages in senior tournaments. Money's ruining football in England.

there is that .

really don't get why clubs don't loan some of these players out to Championship or Div 1 teams instead of the pointless u23 games they do play.

and having waited 51 years to reach a WC final 2 come along in a couple of months.

I grew up living in Wembley. I went to every international for decades, even when I moved to South London. I haven't been to one for over 10 years. Poor management, over-hyped players, players who get in due to who they play for, selecting injured, over-the-hill players have seen off my desire to support my country.

I am sure that it could be re-ignited. If we could get a coach in to get the best out of the talent that we have and play to our strengths, I could be persuaded to go again. Surely, everyone who loves football really wants to see a good national team?

I'd like to see the press stop blowing smoke up Pep's and Conte's arse for spending hundreds of millions of our money in buying a load of foreign players and go after them for failing to use the English young players at their disposal...............but they won't.

Congrats to the U17 team and Brewster. Must say the goal keeping looked like Mignolet or Karius were in goal though.

The German youth teams dominated and progressed to dominate in the years after. In the world cup in 2022, you would expect to see a number of these current youth players featuring.

You're mistaken if you think it's only in the last 10 years that who you play for matters when getting picked for England, choose an era since WWII and you'll find a team full of players from the top clubs of the day.
But, just because someone plays for a top club doesn't always make them a top player, is i assume what you're saying.

if city get through with utd this league cup looks a total non entity of a comp until they meet each other.

City are not taking this comp serously, looking at their match yesterday. Going through on pens against a championship side, with 9 changes. United are and unless City meet them along the way they are not going to play a strong team and will be at risk of being eliminated. pep will not want to be dustracted by this comp and I can see Mourinho winning it again by grinding out results.

And piss easy to do so as well.

A hat-trick from Liverpool striker Rhian Brewster sent England into the Under-17 World Cup final with a 3-1 win over Brazil.
Is old enough and can play with the big boys now, our future Kane<applause><applause><applause>.

Owen was playing for the 1st team at 17, why not Brewster.

If we were Germany the under 17 team would be brought through as a unit, give or take the odd player, and know exactly how each played after playing together for years. We will be lucky to see two of the current under 17 team make full England debuts, something is seriously wrong with our international selections.
