Is he the best winger we've had since Robbo? He looks like a player who can make things happen, and a winger you can rely on to get over quality crosses. And Benson will get on the end of them.
He did more in 15 minutes today than Waggy did in 75, he will probably start on Tuesday and I think should get the nod from now on.
Still don't think it'd be fair to drop Waggy he has played well if he continues to be uninfluencial then drop him maybe let him start next 2 games and see what happens, maybe bring on Green a bt earlier though
Dont think it would be fair on Waggy to be dropped and I'm a massive believer in keeping faith with the same squad Yet there are times when you have to be ruthless and I agree with Captain Blackadder that Green did more in his 15min cameo so should definitely start against Reading. Maybe against Bury keep with the original 11 (unless Green has a worldie)
I’m with Captain and Forest on this one… If Waggy doesn’t score during a game he may as well not be there, as imo he offers very little else. He can’t cross for s**t and consistently runs down blind alleys for pretty much his entire time on the pitch. In BWP we have a real out and out pure goal machine who comes to life in and around the box. All he needs is the right supply. Get Green on the right and he’ll get consistent delivery into the box for him to get on the end of. When Blackburn won the Premiership they had Shearer and Sutton up top, with Wilcox and Ripley out wide. All the later pair did was cross the ball pretty much every time they had it. This lead to Shearer and Sutton being able to gamble and get across their opposite numbers into quality position to meet the supply that they knew was coming their way. The net result… Goals galore… Premiership title... thank you very much!! At the moment the delivery from wide positions is so sporadic that our attacking players are reacting to the occasional delivery as opposed to anticipating the arrival of regular supply into them…!! Having said all that, we do have 10 points from a possible 12 on the board. So all in all I don’t think we really need to push the panic button just yet chaps… . Today was never going to be easy in my eyes. After all we were up against a side that were in the Championship last year. Yes, it’s disappointing to be two up until late on and end up drawing but these things happen. It’s how the lads bounce back from such disappointment that really interests me…!! One other thing… Anyone who was booing what is a newly assembled, young and inexperienced squad at the end of the game really needs to have a long hard look at themselves…!!
ive rated green for several seasons we did have him at one stage i cant understand why curb let him go?he worked his bs off from what i heard at the time,i think hes a young lee bowyer type player and that goal at welling was outstanding hes a tryer
I agree with the idea that Waggy did contribute very little today. He was out of the game, at least when Green came on he didn't let Scunthorpe dictate and made them demonstrate what a physical side they were. I would swap Waggy to the bench for the next league match. I doubt that he will start the Reading match either.
For the last few years and this one waggy's been my fav player not because hes our best palyer but i just like him hes always got time for fans etc. however on todays performence green has start he has an amazing crossing ability however in waggy weve got the league best super sub
anyone else think that Stepens went missing today somewhat? I would like to see Green - Jackson - Hollands - Wagstaff (left to right) Cant remember Jackson doing to much down the wing, and it would be great to have Green's crossing complimenting Wagstaff's pace and counter-attacking potential.
to be fair if Curbs released Green it probably was the right decision at the time given we were in the Premier League, Curbs wasn't to expect us being in League One just 3 years later. the only thing i'd have perhaps considered would have been loaning out some of these players on season long loans such as Green, Turner etc players we released and could have used now. I know we did loan some players but Chelsea loaned out Mancienne for about 4 seasons when he was on there books? I think sometimes Curbs didn't think outside the box. I would now start with Green as for me he was more of an attacking threat which is what we need going forward, not a defensive RM constantly helping Solly (not a criticism of Solly btw)
lol! Have to admit whilst Waggy was playing today Franco I thought the very thing you've said this evening (that if Waggy doesnt score each game then people will be calling for Green to start) Waggy said the very same after Bournemouth that he'll need to score 46 goals to keep his place (maybe today Powell could have tried taking off BWP for Green at the end, putting Waggy up front perhaps?)
I never read that quote from him A4L... He obviously said it because he knows he can't match Green in terms of overall ability when it comes to the RM berth. Anyway, before we get too excited about Waggy's goalscoring exploits. Lets remember that Green netted 10 times for the Daggers in a season where they were relegated. So the fact that Green offers both genuine ability in terms of wing play and goals, surely it's a no brainer that he comes in to the starting lineup.
I love waggy to bits a real trier him and Green totaly different type of players. Greens crossing is Beckhamesque...he gets the ball and his first thought is to whip the ball in from anywhere in the opponents half just like Beckham. Him or waggy nice choice for CP to have and they both will play a big part in us winning the title this season
It's just not easy to get a winger who you can rely on to send over quality crosses. Who have we had since Robbo? Rommedahl? More like Dracula with his fear of crosses. I thought Kyle Reid would be the answer but something went wrong there. But now we have Danny Green who I believe is the real deal, and I can't help but think of Paddy Powell and the service he regularly supplied for Killer and Flash.
A tear of nostalgia falls from my eye, FHB I think you're absolutely right about Green and I hope the first demonstration of this will be on Tuesday night.
Greeny is a tenacious hardworking winger whose crosses are class1. He is very similar to Robbo. I would love to see Greeny and Benno play together, maybe they will on Tuesday night.
Danny Green is definitely our answer to the right Midfield issue we've had for a few years Scott Wagstaff is the person who can come on in the last 20mins and terrorise defenders with his pace. Maybe if their roles were reversed yesterday then we'd have won comfortably but (1) Hindsight is a wonderful thing and (2) As I've said ever since the Bournemouth win, you cant change a winning side http://www.cafc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10267~2420765,00.html - 6th paragraph from the end was Waggy's quote about probably having to score 46 goals this season
