Brighton forward Tomer Hemed has been charged with violent conduct by the Football Association over an incident in Sunday's game against Newcastle.
Hemed, who scored the winner in his side's 1-0 victory, is alleged to have stamped on defender DeAndre Yedlin in the 88th minute.
He has until 18:00 BST on Tuesday to respond to the charge.
The 30-year-old Israel striker could face a three-match suspension if found guilty.
Brighton boss Chris Hughton defended his player, saying any contact would have been accidental.
"My very first impression is there was no intent," said the former Newcastle manager. "There has been contact but my first impression is no intent and, knowing the individual, I would say no intent."
Off-the-ball incidents that are not seen by match officials at the time are referred to a panel for assessment.
Each member of the panel is a former elite referee and they will review the video footage independently of each another to determine whether they consider it worthy of a red card.
For retrospective action to be taken, and an FA charge to follow, the decision of the panel must be unanimous.

To be honest on the highlights he looks straight to the ref afterwards and not back at the player to see whats happened so for me he knows what he's doing. See this every weekend at grassroots level and its always easy to see and tell who means it and who doesn't.
He definitely knew what he was doing. It was the classic 'oh I've lost my balance and tangled legs and can't avoid putting my studs through your leg' scenario. There was deliberate force put into Hemed's leg coming down on Yedlin's leg.
think a lot of fans etc have a defeatist attitude sometimes ..god fight back , like rafa does dear me ..

the liner on the East Stand line
the easiest yellow in the world was the mandatory yellow that should of been given to the guy
that jumped up in front of Rob Elliott as he was kicking out of goal
had the ref played on then you could of said that he never seen it
but as he did see it and pulled play back because of it - that is a Mandatory Yellow card
for :- Delaying the restart of the game
and he did nothing
the taking out of Perez on the half way line was unbeliveable that no foul was given
yet 2 minutes later the big hard Newcastle winger Atsu pushed over the the mild mannered giant
Liverpool player and a foul was given he though the liverpool player had Atsu shirt
lets not talk about the ball being out at the leazes end not seen
as the liner was 10 yards behind the line of play near the end of the game where the liverpool player headed just over the bar

Yedlin was lucky in my opinion. That was a rash challenge when he was already on a yellow card. Couldn't really have complained if he'd seen red due to the way cards are dished out these days. But nice to see a ref deal with it via a talking to.
yes m8 i .agree rafa was quoted about this after the match ..and he said well the first was not a yellow ..
damm he was right , love the way this guy will not back down and way of thinking ..second to none .. winners atitude

why do we have a ref who has already been in charge of us this season ref us again

what Bullshit they are all the same level of ref - why do we have to put up with ****e like what we had today
it seems that the premiership refs don't know Law 12 :- goalkeeper shall not hold onto the ball longer than 6 seconds - indirect free kick
Speroni was holding onto the ball for 12 seconds and longer
yet when we scored the ref was telling our players to hurry up the cheeky bastard
Elliott was holding on to the ball for way longer than 6 seconds too. I don't remember the last time I saw a ref give a free kick for that to be honest.
I personally think Cabaye should have walked today but otherwise I don't really have any other criticism for the ref.
