I'm writing this as West Brom have just scored a goal. As confident as I am about the current season, I think we have to be realistic and consider that we are hardly going to be competing for a Europe position. Avoiding relegation can really only be our priority and I was chatting with my bro and we agreed that the way we have to look at it, rather than trying to count up how many points Norwich are going to get, is to work out who Norwich can do better than over the year. Realistically, I think we have to do better than: Swansea, QPR, Wigan and Blackburn. Other teams who might fall into the relegation battle if things go wrong might include West Brom, Wolves, though both have good managers. Clubs where there's quite a bit of turmoil, e.g. Newcastle and Everton, may sink under if they don't bring any decent signings, but will probably be OK. Judging by squads, I think Stoke, Sunderland, Fulham, Bolton and Villa are never going to be fighting relegation. All the rest we can forget about (Arsenal will be fine...) So. Today's results- Swansea v Wigan draw is a great result for us (and encouraging because Swansea were apparently dominated at home to a team we put in a good performance away to). Villa v Blackburn result is also great, Blackburn look in real trouble. Sunderland v Newcastle is not so good and on that performance I don't think Newcastle are going to struggle after two great results, despite the departures. QPR's victory away to Everton, though, is an unmitigated disaster. I really didn't see them stealing anything against the seventh placed team from last year. Let's hope their bounce after the Fernandes purchase only lasts one match. Finally, the current 1-0 to West Brom at Chelsea is also a bad result, but the Baggies probably won't be in the bottom three anyway. So tomorrow I'm hoping for a Fulham victory and I don't really care about the Man City score. I know it's very early days, but being in the Premier League makes every single match exciting and I like to have an idea of what result I'm looking for every weekend. What do others think about my assessment? Accurate re. the results of other teams we should hope? Of course, aside from all this, a Norwich victory every week would be great too...
I highly doubt west brom will do badly this season, they have a great manager in Roy hodgson. It doesn't matter how other teams do in my opinion. All that matters is how we do and our results. We need to be able to compete with whatever is thrown at us. Norwich can try and win all the games but we can't influence what others do.
That's true (QPR fan here) but it's hard not to hope the other so called strugglers will continue to falter. Teams like Norwich and QPR can hope to get a certain amount of points but ultimately we may need help from others just being slightly worse. So until we're safe I'll be wishing the worse on our rivals. Personally I'd like to see Norwich stay up (with us obviously), more so than Swansea. Hoping Blackburn have crap year aswell. Good luck
I think we need to keep half an eye on other teams scores, but as long as we get the points we need (42ish) we shouldn't need to worry about the others.
We only need to finish above three teams. I think we're more than capable of finishing above Wigan, Blackburn, Swansea and QPR. We have the potential to finish above Stoke and Fulham if they're European campaigns go on a while and involve some long haul flights to the outer reaches of Europe. As for the rest? Newcastle are as unpredictable as ever, while Everton could be in for an off year as they tend to have every now and then. Personally I think we can finish around 15th, but really there's no telling. If we beat Stoke 3-0 tomorrow then for half an hour we'll be top of the league, if we lose by the same score we drop to 15th. All we need to do is consistently get points on the board and we'll be fine.
Let's concentrate on us, obvoously it's relevant want qpr etc do but too early in the season to be a dave Lee travisty Well done to qpr
Hate to tell you that the swans were by far not dominated , Wigan parked a proverbial bus across goal, we had 60% of the possession and had more shots on goal, and let's face it we didn't let any goals in. I know we will land up above you this season as we are a better team but I know also that we will both avoid the drop
Yes exactly , we won more games than you, our away form was our downfall though, but IMO we have brought in better players than you and will have more points than you, still it's all opinions and we are all entitled to them
All that possession and all those shots and you still didn't manage to score... got to be a bit worrying that
It's not about the past though is it ? And whilst lita may be one we regret signing, I am sure that vorm won't be, and let's face it you haven't exactly set the world on fire with your signings. And as I said IMO you will have less points at the end of the season than us
Nope not at all, we have got new front men and that takes time to gel in, but you have let Wigan score against you, got a suspect defence have you ? That must be worrying lol
Your defence was pretty leaky the other night in Manchester, their new striker didn't take long to "gel in" did he. Gotta be beating teams like Wigan at home if you want to stay in the league
And let's see how you get on with them , they are a completely different class to anything you have faced so far, and we need to beating team's like Wigan home and away to stay up, so don't get all high and mighty here, because you have failed to do that also!
Very true, you do need to be beating Wigan at home or at least score past them, if you want to survive. Two games gone and zero goals scored. You can play all the fancy dan stuff until the cows come home, but if you can't get the round leather thing in the net, you're nothing!
You have scored one goal so far, and you have a far tougher game tomorrow against stoke, they are no pushovers as you will see tomorrow, and it's not only scoring goals it's preventing them as well, you failed on that with wigan. Fair enough we failed with man city as well, but I can guarantee you that a lot of sides will ship goals against them, you included! So I don't want to argue with you as it's pointless, but just came here to correct the op on his appraisal of the swans game, I was there he wasn't , Wigan were not good, the Martinez style is played better with the swans than his club now lol
