Keeping Stokdale's u21 team together was absolutely the right thing to do, but that team has now disbanded and they're currently not a great team despite having great potential in the ranks, keeping them together has now become counter productive, Gooch, Honeyman and Watmore are now in the main team this has taken the dynamic out of what was a very good youth team. This is leaving the likes Greenwood, Embelton, Beadling, Asoro and the Robson lads in no mans land. They should be out on loan now. Massive failure. All gone to cock since Stockdale moved to the first team to be wasted as the coach who is ignored.
Extremely worrying We need to move more from U18/21 level up and focus on the assembly line of our future talent asap.
Well knock me down with a feather! Sunderland choosing money ahead of progression - I never thought I'd see the day.....
A very worrying report, if accurate, the youth team is our future, and must be developed along the right lines. The treatment of Beadling is a worry, he wasn't involved on Saturday, even though we had no one else to cover Billy Jones and JoS, this shows a lack of faith in the players and must affect them, an opportunity to get the lad involved was missed. The likes of Honeyman and Gooch have not let us down at all when called upon, in fact they have been excellent so far imo.
I'm mystified by this as Beadling is quite highly rated. Not sure at all and what about Loughran (spelling) who was on loan in Norway - lack of progresion is worrying when we have so little quality in front of them.
I can well imagine that we're mismanaging them but at the end of the day if they're good enough then they'll make an impact and if they aren't they won't. I doubt we're the only club to be indifferent to young players they don't think will cut the mustard.
People aren't good enough to make it until we see them making it. This reminds me of the Louis Lang/Ryan Noble situations. People big young players up when they don't see what those working with them do. No doubt there's some incompetency within the administration but we've created a few players who've performed for the first team and then created a bit of profit for us. I'm sure we could be doing a bit better but I doubt it's as dire as they're making out.
You're one of those brave little dickheads who only shows up when you're sure you can get digs in with little to no comeback, aren't you.
If we are not going to give them a chance, these lads should be loaned out, short term. But it does seem strange that our young home grown defenders are not even getting a look in, in the present circumstances.
Chances are that even playing BJ at CB is a better option for us at the moment, he was fine there against QPR. It'd be great to be churning out Pickfords but it's not happening at CB at the moment.
Does anyone know what the situation is with Max Stryjek our young keeper? He's on loan at Accrington Stanley, played one game and got injured, reports at the time of the injury suggested he'd be out a few weeks and that time has passed now. If he's fit again we should look at recalling him.
Shame about Maja hope nothing serious. It'd be good if Asoro plays well and impresses the boss I think he'd be useful around the first team.
Half time. 0-0, Bossing the game but struggling to create any clear cut chances. McNair, Robson and Embleton running the show
