R&J wed under 18's on a school night , sure it was Tiffany's in my time at the top of blackboy hill, that know it was on the site of BUPA hospital now. dug out, & New Bristol centre , can't remember the name now for the life of me, there was a ice skating rink in same complex, saw Elvis Costello there (loudest gig I ever went to), & The Specials.
Saw Slade & queen at hippodrome, Clash (twice) & 10cc at Colston Hall.

Locarno - black ceiling with fairy lights mimicking the night sky!! Come to think of it, The Locarno was on the top floor (saw my first gig there as well - Steve Harley and Cockney Rebel), but there was a smaller club a couple of floors down; cant remember its name though.

Saw Queen as the support to Mott the Hoople at the Colston Hall - probably '72/'73

now it is 40 odd years ago but I think the Locarno was lower down, top floor had a disco type place? A Friday night venue think it was racquels?
funny period in time back then, on the hoc went there to meet a couple young ladies my mate had no tie!, bought one off a down and out /tramp/homeless person for about a shilling/5p? imagine even these poor peeps wore ties... we all wore ties!.. trainers in those days were like glorified plimsolls!

The Locarno was what is now the O2 I think, so I struggle to imagine what it must have been like before. Can't really work it out even though I've seen photos.

Sorry John, but Locarno was top floor. As Wiz's photo shows, there was a balcony around 3 sides forming a horse-shoe facing the stage. Your are right about the other club being Raquels, but that was a much smaller, intimate place than the ballroom.

saw the specials, the selector and dexy's midnight runners in the locarno, the two tone tour reckon it would have been about 1979. some guy fell / thrown off the balcony and another occasion had a gun pulled on me outside

Saw Iron Maiden on the Number of the Beast tour in Colston Hall. I was going down with a cold and sinuses blocked. My ears ached for ages after that.
Saw Sammy Hager, Whitesnake, Krokus, Scorpions, MSG and quite a few more that I can’t quite remember as you tell by that list what sort of music I grew up to.
