Prefer to stay out of political debate but the above isn't always true. Governments drop manifesto pledges all the time as "circumstances" change after they've made their "promise" (particularly in a coalition). What democratic process voted for a Conservative / DUP pact (not calling it a coalition before the pedants jump in), oh and paid for from the magic money tree that Theresa May told the nurses didn't exist.

The Brexit bill to allow talks to even start now stands at £60Bill and even if we pay it to trade with the EU on the current low tariff basis we will have to adhere to all their regulations including freedom of movement. We can of course walk away and tell them to stick it and trade with the rest of the world. We currently export 90% of our goods to the EU. We could trade with the EU on the WTO basis, that's a 10% rise just in terms of tariffs plus whatever value the pound tanks by when if we go with no deal. Then of course the EU and its then 27 countries will have huge clout compared to the tiny UK. Do you think India, the US, China, South Korea would prefer to have trade deals with big markets or little ones. India for one would want their own free movement agreement as part of a trade deal!!! Clue. There quite a few people in India that might want to live in the UK. We have truly backed ourselves into a corner. The only solution that solves all the problems is a second referendum and the common sense of remaining to win.
£60Bill is the figure and the EU wont shift from it.. In some respects its irrelevant on two counts. 1. Some clowns we wont need to pay anything to get the deal. 2. We wont be leaving
