When I see Saints play now I feel our only chance to win is to score first and then hold on. Unfortunately neither our ability to score is good nor is our ability to keep a clean sheet. So that plan isn't going to be very successful !!!!!

What happened to us taking the game to our opponents with speed and power, and using minimum touches. We are so slow and make it easy for the opponents every bloody time!!!!!!!

Redmond and tadic look so much better when they're on their correct sides.

Much better football towards the end of the half. Winger even tried out a swap!

However, Maya looks more worth 60M and VvD looks worth 60P.

 

That was loads better recently in two instances:

Firstly, the free kick by the touchline whixh we took quickly and were instantly in behind them and it led to a corner.

Secondly we had a bit of one touch around the box which very almost opened them up.

Our problem is we play infront of teams too much and make it easy for them, turn them around more either by playing with more pace or one touch and we can get back into this.

Thought we did ok the last ten mins or so.starting to attack there box much better .its not over yet

 

Playing everything in front of Newcastle, as we have every game so far. Easy to defend. Need to quicken play up, try more triangles/one-twos and getting in behind fullbacks.

 

What a wonderful player Cedric has become. Lemina is brilliant.

The rest are a bit meh.

I really hate this 4-4-2, I was trying to withhold judgement to see if we'd worked on something particularly to make it dynamic, and wasn't going to leave us with a gaping maw between two fairly defensive midfielders and two forwards who don't like to come to the ball... But really doesn't seem like it so far. Doesn't so much look like a calculated change as much as Pellegrino cowing to the pressure of 'We can't score goals that means we need more strikers!!!' and just rolling the dice. But maybe it just hasn't worked out how intended.

 

You can't and I've criticised our transfer dealings over the past two summers more than anyone.

But he has to take some of the flak, regardless of how much the board let him down the squad is better than what is currently showing.

We did look a bit better after the goal. I just wish I felt like someone could actually finish.

Shane Long does all the little things well... and none of the big things. But we can at least use him for what he is good at. Play it long to him. He’s wasted in a possession tactic.

 

Puel had the same problems and he had Rodriguez to come on. We got rid of Jay and didn't replace. There comes a time you have to look at our attacking players and say none are good enough.
