Have seen her quite a few times in concert, once in Sydney as well. The first time I saw her was in 98 at the Rivermead Leisure Centre in Reading. It was a surreal experience having a drink at the bar, surrounded by people that had been playing squash and badminton etc. We then opened the doors to the indoor football/whatever area and there you were seeing a 70's icon playing. The best night of my life ever.
Younger perhaps, but not as young as some imagined at the time. By the early 1980's Debbie was only a few years shy of 40. Twice the age of the modern generation of twerking teenage pop poppets. And she was absolutely stunning...
Around the time of Union City Blue and Atomic she was probably one of the most beautiful women in the world.

There is more to attraction than 'first sight' of course. One of the things that made the public persona of Debbie Harry so intoxicating to many was the way she sang those Blondie hits - many of which were decent songs too in the context of the times. Good looks will always sell, and images (whether still or moving) attract instant attention But in my opinion Ms Harry was a lot sexier than a pretty but passive actress, or a sculpted but cold catwalk model. Or the more obvious kind of 'showgirl' like Madonna and all those who have followed her example.
