Depends what I'm doing. Nearly always cash unless I'm walking into a travel agents to book a holiday or something, then I'll put money in the bank beforehand and take my card into the shop.
The only thing I use my card for is putting bets on. My bank statements look mad.

Haven't carried cash in two years. The contactless limit over here is $100. Just no need for cash anymore.
you're insured for all acts of fraud but it's the inconvenience of it.they're a target cause you can charge a night out contactless a piece of piss so long as theres funds
Some shops around here don't even accept cards and some of them that do charge you 50p for the pleasure. That never ever bothered me, but as I'm getting older the thought of paying just to use my card, or paying one of them cashpoints that charge you a couple of quid to draw your own money out, pisses me right off. I'm far more comfortable and savvy with my money when it's in cash and not on a card.
I liked the idea that came up years ago , but never happened. A card, which you would load from your account, but wouldn't need PIN or anything. In a contactless way, just show it to a machine and transfer the funds to the retailer, who would at some stage download his total from his machine to his bank. So if you went to the newsagent for the paper, no trying to get coins together to pay 70p, or no getting loads of coins change. Would also use in vending machines , parking meters etc. If you had £20 on the card and lost it, it would be just like losing a £20 note.
I hardly ever carry cash these days. You can use cards almost everywhere these days.

Things are a bit different in this village, mate. We have one Chinese takeaway, they don't accept cards. The fruit and veg shop and barbers in Sacriston, they don't accept cards either. Cash is still a necessity around here.

Shop will take cards but charge for it. Barbers don't take cards & neither does the club or the pizza shop or the chippy.
I hardly ever leave the village unless I have to go to Stanley for the chemist & the buses don't take cards either.
I don't even have a credit or debit card, mine just lets me withdraw cash.
It's the same in some of the villages around us. When I'm in London, 5 days a week there's just no need for cash. But out in the sticks where I live I guess its still similar to where you are as well.
My mates got a carpet business and he's only just recently starting taking card payments because of the cost of bank charges have been so expensive.
He also told me a while a go that he still receives a lot of payments by cheque, mostly from old folks. I dont even know if I still have a cheque book in the house.

I'd forgotten all about them.
My wife changed her car before we went on holiday and received a cheque through the post for her road tax. The bugger's still stuck on the fridge door! God knows when well get the chance to stick it in the bank!
Always carry £100-200 cash though use cards for shopping, petrol, meals out & big ticket items.
