Possibly the best Star Trek series ever so far.. it's quite dark. No thought provoking ****. Just war.

Watched first 3....slow build but looks like it's going to pretty grown up and dark...i think I'm liking it lol

Nerd wise I'm surprised it's set in original timeline rather than revamped as it's difficult seeing serious equipment advancements that didn't hit until TNG times but it's supposedly 20 years before original kirk. Not a terrible thing and inevitable with CGI being so much better....

I've finished the second and third this morning while trying (failing) to do work.

Slow burner yes. Character development thus far is mixed

    My thoughts are

    1. Ok Abraham's ****e is an abomination. He was allowed butcher the entire concepts time line and for me that's cocked up the thing

    2. This far the gap between the rubbish Jonathon archer era ship design and woefully poor characters and this AND even then the next gap to the UK Abraham's style original series kirk era is all off.

The USS discovery is more technologically advanced looking than the final "latest" seen enterprise. There's no logical way to go from this back to the enterprise a or whatever. It just doesn't add up.

Further the discipline that the TNG show started out trying to show as star fleey officers is missing and frankly this is like the jj abrahams anything goes type stuff.

I mean this 3rd episode one woman walks in all piss and vinegar acting the big balls with a gun and knife and basically kills herself with the beast thing ripper

For me while its ok it's all style and no substance. The look of the Klingon, the style of Klingon ships, the fancy sound off warp speed ships and that..... The core of star trek is a bit of we are better on the future than people Now, more discipline etc. Good character actors (at least one) and a focus on decent science plus social commentary

Thus far I see no social commentary of note. They have struggled to come up with a technology that's not already in play so we get these arthouse ships.

Just a note. Warp 10, trans warp or what have you has been in

    A) star trek movies ( failed ship that Scotty sabotages)

    B) star trek tng.

    C) Borg ships have transwarp.

    D) voyages failed experiments.

Yet we are to believe the federation crack it with magic mushrooms and a big dog....

    Hmmmmmm

Plus the main characters same is as ****ing stupid as they could possible make it.

The social commentary I kinda get. Seems to it's going to go with the Federation and it's ideals that set them out into space being tested for the first real time with the Klingons.. I'm guessing the internal struggle of Rainsford between the Vulcan logic that got her in **** and her declared love of federation values will resolve itself externally with opposition to what will be the increasing divert away from federation by Isaacs...if he stays in it.

I did enjoy the rather brutal end solution of Vulcan logic in how to deal with Klingons though lol

It was ranty I will admit.

    My view.

Original series = ground breaking social commentary. Technology of the 60s imagining.

The next generation = Patrick Stewart makes it. Some very good stories and acting. Big cast, 1980s imagining of future tech

Ds9. Found it's way. Sisko character brilliant once he finds the soldier anger mode. Weak side story but epic war in the end.

Voyager. Weak, poorly made, lacked much of anything.

Enterprise. Poor acting, low tech effort to position itself before the original series. Time took it's toll and it just looked wrong. Poor enough stories and the tpol link wasn't completed to the to original series movie character.

This is expanded upon as Stewart movies progressed but they also got stylalistic in the end.

It seems to me the entire in abraham movies ripped up the others timeline and ignored any rules of physics that star trek tenously grips to.

This now discovery show this far has been all style as well. It uses the Klingon invented by Abraham's which make no sense compared to the other shows.

I'd say you're over thinking it.

Enjoy it for what it is.. space ships. Lasers, aliens, space battles. Nothing not to like.

The social commentary of the earlier star treks got ridiculous.

I've enjoyed all the star treks other than voyager. Though did watch purely for 7of9.

I actually enjoyed enterprise though it was not gritty enough. This new one is. Only thing lacking is a fit bird.

FYI TNG was the 90's not the 80's <ok>

    Tng started in 1987 mate.

I think it's all cgi and no substance. But then most things end up as such

    T'pol.

80s troi (not the movies one)

Uhura (not the granny in movies)

Dax in ds9 was not slutty enough

there's no hotties in discovery. The big tall fake cgi alien first officer is an obvious attempt to place an effeminate gay character in star trek.

Tbh though..... you end up there and the thing isn't the best in the first place
