I've shamelessly nicked this thread from LFW's as the replies indicate that as we get older the less we watch and the more cynical we become, can't imagine why?

Anyway I thought it would both worth getting the views on here....

Personally I watch less and less.Growing up there was only MOTD and The Big Match which showed only 5 games between them on a Saturday night and Sunday Lunchtime but it was compulsive viewing as they not only showed 1st Division games but games from all divisions. It was always an occasion when the R's were on the box, seeing the TV camera on scaffolding at the school end to show action from behind the goal, God things were so simple then. The only live games were the FA Cup Final and European Cup Final, again they were compulsive viewing.

Nowadays I have absolutely no interest in anything Premier League or the fecking ridiculously named Champions League. Internationals? meh!!! I quite enjoy watching Channel 5 show on Saturday followed by Goal Rush showing the lower leagues but I give MOTD a wide berth.

So apart from the odd visit to HQ and watching the R's games that are shown I hardly bother watching any football, is this just part of the aging process?

I tend to have most live matches on, but don't sit glued to them. I'll be doing other things during the game, wasting my life away on this forum or cooking with the match playing away in the background. The England game on Thursday for example I probably only actually watched about 10 minutes of it.
The only matches that do get my full attention are our own televised ones, which I would normally view from behind the sofa.

A lot! Too much. Thats my wife opinions. I watch premier league, champions league, some spanish league, europa league and very little of finnish league too. Then of course major tournaments Euro finals and Fifa WC.
Football has a rivalry with icehockey thought. I watch NHL and Finnish league from there mostly. Then of course World Championships, World Cups (Canada Cup) and Olympics too.

I watch games of interest but am easily bored and often fall asleep in the evening games before half time if it's like the England match the other night. A good match will keep me glued to the action, like the Man City v Monaco game last season but these are few and far between. To be honest I watch more live non-league than the R's these days, you can wander round the ground, have a beer and even meet the players in the bar after the game. It's far more an enjoyable experience than the tribal fervour you get at the higher level which is a shame.

I think the lack of terraces and the opportunity to just turn up on the day and pay at the gate has turned football away from it's roots. Too many these days are plastic fans who simply follow the big guns of the PL rather than locals like most of us back in the day who loved their club through thick and mostly thin. Sadly, it's just not the same any more...

Premier league, us, Ireland and England and big tournaments of course. I sky plussed the England game the other night and watched at 30 speed until the goal...whole thing took 5 minutes...technology has taken away our attention spans

Nowadays I watch most QPR matches on the Officials live stream, Vålerenga if they are on the box or live if they are playing in Oslo when I'm there, and not much else. Most football games where I care little about who wins are better at sending me to sleep than immovane.

I ditched my Sky Sports packages when I moved house a few years ago, as we couldn't get a dish on the new property - and I don't miss watching the wall-to-wall coverage they offered. I now have Kodi (other viewing platforms are available) for watching football, but I normally only tune in if we are playing (an event that is occuring less and less each season it seems) or if there's a big European night. I watch the local team, Morton, and I'll catch some Scottish football live on BBC Alba, although it's all in Gaelic so can't understand a word, but it's more fun to watch as you feel the players actually give a ****. Can't be arsed with the Premier League anymore, fell out of love with it during our last dalliance with the big boys and their win at all costs attitude, even MotD is a pain to watch with the gushing platitudes the pundits dish out to all and sundry. And Internationals.....I try to be as patriotic as I can but watching England is sometimes a chore (although Kanes last minute equaliser against Scotland was something to celebrate, especially as I had a houseful of Scots!!!)

I try to watch most QPR games on QPR +. I'll watch the odd Premiership game if mates are watching in a pub, but bother less and less with England games these days.

To be honest Tramore, the more football is available on TV the less I am actually watching. It used to be a big event on the box, now it's reached saturation point

A decent book and a cup of tea instead

    Getting old.....nah......well maybe

I watch prem games but don’t sit there glued to it, you’ve got an hour of talking before match starts & never have bothered listening to that crap, watched darts the other night rather than watching England as it’s got boring, watch rangers every home game & some away.

Interesting point about getting older and watching less.
Ditched Sky Sports over the summer as not a cricket fan and plenty of tennis on Eurosport for Mrs RTID - and saved my self about £35 pcm. Not started it again and realised that I had about four MOTDs saved and not watched any of them.
Sort of related is the frustration at the 4 week gap before the next home game due to the internationals.
For that money, I could go to four away games per year!

Used to watch loads but less now. I think a lot of it came about when BT Sport got most of (all?) the Champions League and I lost touch with that (most games seem to be good quality).

It has left me not knowing half the 50 million pound superstars in the Premiership and so I am more detached from that.

Dropped Sky from my Virgin Media over the Summer and, because they don't do the football only channels, haven't felt the cost was worth reinstating it until the Fulham game. I then cancelled it as the 30 day notice period covered the Ipswich v Norwich game that my good lady will watch (after we go to see it live). Will get it again for the Brentford match and probably do the same thing. That said, I watched a bit of the Spurs and Liverpool games last weekend because I could whereas I had been watching MOTD on a Sunday afternoon.

Fast forward Channel 5's show for just the QPR and Ipswich highlights.

Watched England on Thursday from about 30 mins (Ian Wright and Ryan Giggs analysing are worse than any game).

Basically, I'll watch and enjoy watching football of it's there but much less fussed than I used to be if I don't see matches (our games aside).

Enjoy MOTD because it’s highlights only.

The thing I can't stand about MOTD is all that analysis, just show the bloody highlights!

some interesting replies on that LFW thread. I've just seen Holland struggle to beat Belarus. There seems a real lack of quality throughout the world. Perhaps the fans are reacting to poor, negative football. With the way the money is unfairly distributed the game is completely different from the game I started to see in the 60's and it is putting off a lot of people. I'll probably see 6 games this season and will always watch any game on terrestrial. But I'm nowhere near passionate about the game as I used to be

Live football - I go to all the QPR home games unless I'm abroad and usually do five or six away games a season. Can't be arsed to even think about watching anyone else. I also used to go to most of the England home games but haven't been to one this season.

Tv - I record most football highlight shows and fast forward it so that I only see the goals. I still have Sky thanks to a 12 month half price deal and watch the odd game if I've nothing better to do. I usually have the Sunday games on in the background while I prepare the Sunday roast and only bother to pay any attention if I can hear a goal go in or there's some kind of incident.

I'd say that I watch about 80% less TV football than I did about five - ten years ago.
