Love the Scottish wildlife. Saw this little fellow (and his friends) from the window of our cottage last week.

And isn't it odd that in certain states in the North East of America, like Connecticut, gun crime and gun death is a fair odd bit less than it is where guns are free and easy to come by. [Connecticut passed tighter gun control laws as a result of the Sandy Hook school massacre] And there is a Republican senator who, at this very moment, is trying to pass a bill where federal states will not be able to choose how strict their gun laws will be, on the basis that the 2nd Amendment makes it a right to bear arms, so there should be no denying of those rights. The states which have passed stricter gun control laws are pleading with everybody not to allow this law to pass.

That country is a ****ing mad house.

And the comparison with Australia has to be faced up to, where a mass shooting in 1996 led to stricter gun control, and where they haven't had a single mass shooting incident since. Not one, in 21 years. Not 30,000 people dying of gunshot wounds every year like ****ing America.

What nobody in the USA seems to realise is that the 2nd Amendment was exactly that, an AMENDMENT. The legal precedent to amend an amendment is surely self-evident.

Arrived at Padang Bai short walk to blue lagoon beach here for a few days snorkeling maybe a dive. People mostly pass through going to Lombok and the Gilis and miss this laid back slice of paradise. Cold Bintang and lunch, splash in the Beji Bay resort pool, snooze before hitting the beach. It's close to full moon magic time to get the mask and fins on.

You will be fine! I often travel on my own. Went to Argentina for 6 months, and then few years later, to Brazil for a much short stay.

Beautiful language. I shall remember this!! Actually, Jabbo can I use this with my language students as it is rich in language, it contains words with multiple meanings, so would be excellent to use?

Very similar here in Mallorca. It is sunny and beautiful here with the temeprature here set to reach the mid 20s today and over the weekend. Average temperatures tend to dip into the teens from early November onwards and that is when to put the heating on, or in my case have a wood burning stove to keep the house dry due to the high humidity.

Please do Ides thanks for the compliment. You can see from the photos it's an inspiring place as much of Bali is. Low tide and a bit of swell means we'll wait until tomorrow morning to survey the underwater scene.

I gave up solitary travel when I arrived at the Taj Mahal and didn't have anyone alonside me to whom I could say "f***ing hell!" (I become quite eloquent when I'm in the presence of sublime beauty).

Mrs Jab is impressed with with your profile pic. Pressure is on for a trip in that direction next year. A gentle twist of the arm has done it, it's on the agenda.

Choose an off-peak month. June-September, extremely busy. A good time could be May outside the Bank Holiday season. Even December is good as it is quiet but the days are too short to pack in all the things you would want to do well into the evening.

Mrs No7 has said she feels like she is travelling alone sometimes with me.

“You’re not on that bloody forum again!”

Still Santorini is lovely again today. Different hotel now too - wow it is amazing. Overcast atm but look at the view.

If you ever come here, stay at the Charisma Suites. Stunning!

Not just Australia but here as well - the gun laws passed after Dunblane must have made a huge difference as gun crime in the UK is tiny. What I don't understand in America is that nothing stopped this man from legally (I think, but could be wrong) purchasing 33 firearms in the last 12 months. 33. There's no way to flag this up to authorities and he could just go from one state to another buying multiple guns. It's crazy.

Well we had the gun amnesty in the UK, as a result of Dunblane, and a few other shootings. We also then made it really difficult to purchase a gun. It is still possible to buy one, providing you have the correct paperwork, licence and use, but in the UK we don't see that bearing arms is any form of basic right for the individual. It's a mentality/attitude thing as much as anything else.

Here's an interesting, if tragic piece of data. More Americans have been killed in America since 1968 than on all the battlefields and wars they been involved in. Here's how the stats break down:

    upload_2017-10-6_16-40-38.png

And on the streets and in the homes of Americans, [and only] since 1968,

    upload_2017-10-6_16-42-40.png

The figures in blue come from links in this article: http://www.politifact.com/punditfac...mericans-killed-guns-1968-all-wars-says-colu/
    Worth reading too.

Indeed, I'd post up Australian Jim Jefferies comic account of Gun Control in the USA if only there weren't so many F's and C's in it. Can be found on Youtube. A comic classic and an accurate one. Even the Americans liked it. He has his own US show off the back of it, these days.
