It is about time that Fifa reformed the World Cup. Instead of match after tedious match that precious few people take any interest in watching, just make the whole tournament a straight knockout, no seeding, and the final 32 qualify for the finals, and again make this a straight knockout to avoid the long-winded tediousness that these international tournaments have become. Some of the matches remind me of "It's a Knockout" as some of the contestants are forever falling over in their fancy kits.

Doesn't work for me. 2 years worth of qualifying for half of the sides to have one match and go home?

    Non starter.

I am referring to the qualifying matches as well. Make it a global draw, unseeded so if Italy play Brazil in the first round that is fine. One of them goes out. It means Italy or Brazil are not wasting their time for the next 15 months playing endless matches in qualification.

They're changing the format of the group stage to 16 teams of three from 2026.

That is far too much football!! From which two advance. That is still 5 weeks of football when players and fans should be recuperating. Most fans just like the club football, the internationals are just a side attraction.

10 matches to qualify for the finals! That is ridiculous. Make it a knock-out and if the team are knocked out in the first round that is 8 less matches to play over the next 18 months. As Saints have quite a few internationals some would have to play 4 matches, others more. But it would spare the club fretting less about its players getting injured on international duty.

I can hang in there while they milk the Prem because the saints are there, but WC format, get the **** out of here, couldn't be less interested. Half expecting us to win it 'cause I don't give a damn. <laugh> Russia/Qatar....the home of football. <bubbly>

It's that blooming Ryan Giggs. Though I may be a little harsh in that he played for England boys or something before finding the true path I believe.

And to be truly fair, such is the paucity of decent pundits these days I'm sure Welsh footy fans will be putting up with some English twerp tonight who once visited the Dr Who exhibition in Cardiff.

You don’t want to get stabbed, yet you fancy a football tournament in Turkey?

I see a major flaw to your plan sir.

Really can't see too much happening in Russia, there will be the usual levels of organised violence like at any tournament but think it will be so heavily policed very little "major" will happen. Would much prefer going there over somewhere like Turkey.

Think those who do go will enjoy it, Russia is an awesome country to visit.
