Disagree with that. I think we've had sides as good as the Italia 90 squad.

98 we had a very good side, but thanks to Beckhams red card against the Argies we had to settle for penalties. 11 v 11 we where more than a match for the Argies and probably a better team if I'm honest.

02 we lost by 1 goal to a Brazilian side with Ronaldo, Rivaldo and Ronaldinho upfront. Hardly a disgrace losing by 1 goal to the best international team arguably of all time.

06 again we where let down by a sending off, with Rooney getting sent off, and it forced us to have to park the bus for penalties. 11 v 11 we'd of beat that Portuguese team.

Admittedly the 10 and 14 World Cup teams have been ****e though.

90 was the only squad I've seen that we're actually good enough to win the WC. And they could and perhaps should have.

Problem is that the tournament's have been extended so that it has become dull, I usually start a WC or Euro looking forward to it and then enjoy a few games. By the time the final comes along I'm bored ****less of it. They want to make it bigger and add more teams.

I don't doubt that. Both Becks and Rooney cost us big time in the 2 world cups in question. As we definitely had the players both years to be in with a shout.

Having said that the amount of tournaments we've been knocked out on penalties in, who knows what could have been if we had even won half of those penalty shoot outs.

    Glen Hoddle
    Alan Shearer
Sven (for trying to play Scholes as a winger)
    David James
    Rob Green
    David Seaman
    Steve McLaren
    Steevie Me
    Phil Neville

You can throw them into the mix as well.

The FA can foot the next 4 or 5 failures at this rate too.

Finland have nicked an equaliser at Croatia, leaving Iceland top and almost certain to qualify automatically.
