I gave up watching international games some years ago UNLESS There was a Hull City player in one of the teams playing.

This is very true. Look at Portugal in the last Euros. They were seriously ****e, particularly early on, but somehow won the thing.

We had a run of incredibly poor luck in tournaments from 2002-2006 at a time when we had a really good squad.

Agreed.......The Scum and the other arse wiping press, along with ITV will build us up to be the best thing since sliced bread, to knock us down when it all goes pear-shape.

I still can't get over Mark Pougatch asking will Joe Hart play in goal in the QF of Euro 16 when we were losing at h/t to Iceland...That's the kind of mentality we are dealing with.

I've got bored of qualifiers. Always same old, win most of them, usually a bore fest as the enemy always park the bus. Couldn't imagine being a big club supporter, it would get old fast.

Doesn't affect my support for England though, I always back us to win every game.

Regarding the strength of our team I disagree. Kane and Alli as potent a duo as you could wish to have. Walker, Clyde, Rose, Bertrand an excellent and threatening pool of full backs to pick from. Missing the super solid centre half duo, but once Harry cements his place we will improve. Maybe lacking a spark out wide and a real boss in the middle.

What we need to do is learn how to make it happen when it matters. Holland, Italy, Portugal and so on I definitely wouldn't say have more quality in their team but people will say they'll be in the mix.

The team last time out was:
    Hart
    Walker Cahill Jones Bertrand
    Henderson Dier
    Oxlade-C Alli Rashford
    Kane

Jones is injured; presumably Stones will take his place, rather than bloody Smalling. The other issue is Dele Diver Alli's fingering suspension. The options are probably Livermore (a defensive move), Sterling (a lightweight option, but almost certainly the one Southgate will opt for) or Sturridge (he'd be my choice).

I'm sure some people would like to see Vardy start, but Kane works better in the existing formation, and bringing Vardy on after the hour seems to be working too.

I wouldn't hold your breath for the Dutch. There's a very good chance they'll be watching it on TV with the rest of us.

God, no - I've only just noticed he's not in the list.

Looking into it, it seems Southgate said he'd been playing hurt and needed an injection that would keep him out for 3-4 weeks... and then he played 90 minutes against Bournemouth the weekend after that! I wonder if he had the injection after that.

Agree with some of points here, that's why I think we'd currently fair better with an Allardyce/Pulis style manager.

Agree but I think players are more ****ish these days - aiding and abetting a dislike of them. Also, City's time in the top flight has garnered my dislike of some of the top players - seeing how they are week in/week out. Hodgson as well, seemed a total twat.

Further, I honestly think ITV coverage brings out the worst in me. The ****s who commentate, co commentate, punditise and even **** like the music. ****ing hate it and I think it turns me against England.

That said, I'd unreservedly always want England to win.

Ireland had some great players and had a plan - always tough to beat.
Holland were class but didn't show it at that tournament. Yes, we should have won won (Pearce's free kick replayiing my mind).
Egypt - did well and were unlucky to be eliminated really (partic at a time when African teams were generally ****e)

    Belg (yes we were lucky)
    Cameroon (so nearly went out)
BRD - so so unlucky. And....

If we'd have beaten them on pens, we'd have won the WC and probably never gone down the route of systematically losing key games on pens. It'd also be interesting to see how English football would have changed in general.

    What if....

I always believed England's 'success' in 1990 and the massive public interest generated (Gazza, etc) was the catalyst for the PL.

I reckon it deffo helped motivate Murdoch.

There was always talk though, in the 80s, of a breakaway Super League. Some proposals, from what I recall, also mooted a much smaller division of the top clubs. From what I recall, the big 5 (as they were known) had the biggest say (as ever): Liverpool, Everton, Spurs, Arsenal and Man Utd.

Its in the same context as people from Hull supporting other clubs cos City are ****. Some just can not deal with the understanding that you are along for the ride wherever it takes you..
