Tell the Americans they kept guns v Indians. Well you wiped 'em out.Stop producing guns for the public and put 'em in the garbage or Las Vegas will be only the start....they'll be going after the White House next!
Number of Americans killed in wars: 1,396,733 Number of Americans killed by firearms between 1968-2015: 1,516,863 No problem there...
Nah - the guns are for protection. Like it would be worse if they didn't have any! But seriously, the gun lobby is extremely powerful but do not assume it is backed only by a looney minority. It isn't, there are millions who take their second amendment rights very seriously. I'm not sure people in this country realise how polarised that country is (perhaps people are starting to after the last election), and how strongly held these polarised beliefs are. I thought it was extreme when I did a long tour there in 1999 which took me to all of 48 contiguous states, and I've also been married to an American. Since then it's only got worse.
As I've seen somebody post online, Sandy Hook marked the end of the gun control debate - because once people decided killing children was bearable, the NRA had won.
"I don't need to understand how encryption works to want to deny its use to criminals." - Amber Rudd, Home Secretary for the United Kingdom, during her speech at the Tory conference Now imagine the media response if Shadow Home Secretary Diane Abbot made the exact same comment at last week's Labour conference.
Actually, yes you do need some idea if your name is going onto potential Statutes!! Not expecting degree-level knowledge, but a few fundamentals would be nice. Ah, what the hell, it's not as if badly enacted legislation could have any negative impact on the rights of the general populus........ Forget 'lion's led by donkeys', we're fast becoming a country of the gullible led by the criminally incompetent!
If you don't understand the principles of data encryption. you are in no position to understand which aspects of it must be denied to the criminal element.
The basic premise of modern day data encryption is that anything that the a nation state can decrypt in a reasonable amount of time, is generally allowed into the public domain for use. Anything that is not, is not made available to one and all.
It's not the first time in the past week Rudderless has admitted her ignorance of encryption coupled with her determination to ban it, as just the other day she kvetched to The Spectator about the "patronising" and "sneering" attitude of people who understand within the tech industry who understand how their tech, especially encryption, actually works. Naturally the BBC are giving far more coverage to her banning the sale of corrosive acids to under-18s...while ignoring the fact that the vast majority of acid attacks are carried out by people aged 18 and over, making this legislation about as worthwhile as heading to the Titanic's lower decks with a bucket. On the subject of missing the point... Finally, it's been pointed out that several Tories have spoken about combating child obesity at the conference while hoping that nobody notices that the event is sponsored by US sugar firm Tate & Lyle, as evidenced by this photo of Jeremy ...Hunt please log in to view this image Please note that Tate & Lyle import sugar into the UK rather than support the British sugar industry, so that's two messages undermined in one lanyard!
I've often wondered about the demolition of capital punishment for ALL murderers.Has this made a difference? Kill someone today and chances are you will be looked after by the country in prison until you are released, full healthcare, regular meals and other things.....where is the deterant?
By the way....this thing about a gun in the house for protection.....look,if someone breaks in you will not have time to get your gun unless you wear a gunbelt 24 hours like a gunfighter......and chances are,you will not be broken into!
You don't get to punch out early and you're stuck in prison for the rest of your life. Places with the death penalty actually tend to have more murders, even in somewhere like America, where it differs from state to state. The death penalty simply isn't an effective deterrent, going by any data that we've got on the matter. Nevada has the death penalty. 59 dead and 500+ injured. Doesn't seem to have put off the shooter, who also topped himself.
The PM's position was hardly strengthened by her Conference performance today But in other news, at least the BBC are doing their bit to drive the narrative. Headlining 'Business Live - Sterling rises!', I tuned in expecting to see a significant change. Maybe not...... The pound today is 0.3% higher against the dollar at $1.3282 and flat against the euro at €1.1278. Whoopy-****ing-do
Where exactly is that country that works for everyone? Cayman Islands maybe? Or possibly Panama? It certainly isn’t Britain
Sorry, I had a few free minutes and couldn't resist when I heard there had been a prop malfunction with letters dropping of the back screen at the Tory Conference....
