Apple always seemed to be more about status symbol than anything else.

It's the prestige about having paid more for your phone.

Don't you get free minutes with your latest £50 a month 'phone' that's the size of a small tablet?

Tbh, I see no validity in bringing these two arguments together. They are entirely separate issues and need to be kept apart.
There are many people without religious views who have ethical reservations about the availability of abortion, but the pro-abortion lobby has falsely tried to paint them all as right-wing, Christian fundamentalists steeped in outmoded dogma.
It is similarly absurd and unacceptable for the anti-abortion lobby to try and equate a complex and vexed social issue with cold-blooded murder by unhinged individuals with too easy an access to lethal weaponry.
These arguments exist, whether or not God does.

I agree. Although I was talking about a very specific brand who do not.

I mean if you take a look at the range of views of most of these US right wing evangelicals you'd find it hard to equate them with what most people consider the typical Christian person whether you share the faith or not.

Hence the paradox of a group of people who will spit and scream at a woman who has an abortion for being a murderer but the same people will spit and scream at the same woman if she has the child and 4 years later asks for gun control when her child is murdered at Sandy Hook all supposedly based on absolute observance of what you and I would believe are two separate documents.

They argue guns don't kill people, people kill people as a protest at gun control. With over 5000 US citizens killed by guns since 2001

Then they support Trumps ban on travel from entire countries just in case some of those people are Muslims because people don't kill people Islam does. Same with Afghanistan and Iraq under Bush etc. Apparently shrugging and saying people kill people wasn't enough in these examples.

So my point was that in the US...these issues are not separate. A warped version of Christianity and Constitutionalism has infected and taken over one of the two main political parties and I believe its no coincidence that the businesses who use those warped views lobby that party hardest....

But it's more. This might be the extreme of these views but watch and read any US mainstream media and this absolute faith in a hundreds of year old document, a adherence to worshipping symbolism and militarism you rarely see in developed post empire countries but more akin to dictatorships and one party states.....all wrapped in a proclaimed Christian package despite that same constitution demanding secularism from govt...

The US main problem is strange for a new country in relative terms. They adhere to a very 19th century idea of state and citizen.

its not absolute faith. its people telling people what to think based on what the first group wants.

NRA wants white males to be able to play with guns cos it was cool in the west and all that. they want to be bale to hold as many gatling guns, rocket launchers or whatever else they want so they warp a constitution that never said johnny whiteboy is entitled to own any weapon he wants.

A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.

you will note this says the right of THE PEOPLE to keep and bear arms in a well regulated militia. It does not say THE PERSON can own anything he wants.

In theory you could pass a law saying each county in a state can have its own militia compound where guns are held but guns are not allowed in houses. OR you could argue arms are flintlock rifles and shotguns not small pistols.

There's been over 46,000 gun incidents in the US so far this year alone.

Over 11,500 deaths and 23,000 injuries

This doesn't include any of the 22,000 a year who take their own lives in the US with a firearm

The 'right to bare arms' that's the excuse for having semi automatics on sale in shopping malls is utterly ridiculous. These weapons aren't about self defence or hunting, they're about death. Where does the 'right to bare arms' end exactly? A small tactical nuclear warhead perhaps? Its absolutely bonkers.

America says that acts like the Vegas shooting are 'unavoidable', yeah right oh, over 40 people killed every day by guns is unavoidable? Me thinks not.....

I agree largely, though I maintain that they are separate issues.

The fact is, that the Constitutional right to bear arms is nothing but a smokescreen. The people who peddle this argument want, for a variety of reasons, to keep their guns, and citing the Second Amendment merely allows them to lend a spurious legitimacy to their stance.
Some want them because they're macho toys, some want them because they erroneously feel that it makes them safer - I doubt any keep them because they feel obliged to honour a 200 year old document.

Actually, you'd be surprised. Some people treat the Constitution almost like a religious document... But yeah... Most do because they just want guns.

Of course not....anymore than when the same people quote their scriptures actually believe or follow the teachings. They always quote to point out the flaws in others not actually as a declaration of how they themselves live.

Perhaps, but if the Constitution told them to do something they really didn't want to do, I'm betting they'd soon find a way around it.

I hate video phoning for same...

You can't eyeroll ....switch off, watch tv etc when someone's droning on. You have to learn a whole new level of two faced pretending....its tiring.

And I've found there's even more awkward silences on video phone than there is on ordinary phone!

Oh and other people in the house seemed to think videophone is a group thing that they can wander into uninvited....you never just walked up to someone on an ordinary phone...took it off them and started talking...
