You're not far wrong tbh. Thankfully, your lot aren't looking that great despite your points haul. Maybe Jose will risk more than 2 players in our half next weekend!
True, I am sick of us sitting back all game and hoping Lukaku does something, we need others to get forward and help chip in Bright spot for you lads today, Solanke looks like he will be a great player.
Pogba was looking good. You've missed him. If Lukaku gets injured, you'll suffer. Right now he's on fire. Solanke is a talent and after today is probably ahead of Sturridge in the pecking order....but we need a lot more than that! Maybe next year
Nice to see everyone down. Said in the summer we desperately needed a striker. We should have sold Sturridge and brought in a top class replacement. Instead we have a striker who isnt a striker in Firmino and a backup who has all the pace of my dead nan in Sturridge. Our midfield desperately misses Lallana, he is the only plaulyer who actually manages the press game. As for our defence, we may As Well just try the kids back there. Wont be any worse and gives them some experience.
Every result like this highlights how lopsided our transfer strategy has been recently. There isn't a fan that I know who didn't think we needed a CB, CM and GK as well as a decent LB at the close of last season. And we got what??
Is Keita a DM? Do you know what, I'd try Gomez there at the base of a diamond when Clyne comes back, or maybe Grujic. Had enough of this 'Fab Four' malarkey. My biggest fear is that we'll put four past some team in a game or two (unless it's United!) and we'll all be deluded into thinking we're going to do it every game, just as we did after Arsenal. Truth is, these tactics only win one in six games, if that, when if we played 4-4-2 or 4-5-1 and just played two of those four we'd probably still win the occasional game by a shed-load anyway: but we'd damn well win a few more by 1-0 or suchlike.
Hey I'll even settle for if he's an actual box to box cm rather than "I'll just run up here boss and maybe come back......at some point....maybe...to be honest boss I'm a bit dizzy running around in circles up here...passing backwards and sideways 4 yards ...."
First off grujic has shown zero inclination to be a defensive player so he won't sit at the base of any midfield. Second Gomez is a strong boy but he is no Eric Deir and won t be able for that role. Third I watched Henderson today as Matip stepped forward on 3 occasions. Never once did the guy take a step back and cover his team mate. This pisses me off and is a red flag to me. I agree with you. Play a 343 or a 442 with two diggers in midfield and we would score just as many. It's not 433.. It's no shape, no attitude to defense. Look at the shelvey pass it's actually wijnaldum not Henderson goal side and He shows absolute zero intent to close down the pass. He actually let's him cut us open. Further it's 2 v 1 at the back. If the no 6 would actually play no 6 and get between those cbs that goal never happens.
Sturridge is done imo The guy's career is disappearing / has disappeared in front of his own and our eyes
Keita is another attacking player. He is a dribble and fancies himself as a worldie. He will need to adapt very quickly to prem. Very talented but everything is all out attack with our signings.
Well, we bought a LB, a CM (plus another for next season) and were on our way to buying a CB until we messed it up, although quite why we didn't then target another I don't know. How did Lascelles look? Would he be worth looking at? Good to see Newkie doing well under Rafa though.
What I don't understand....ok we wouldn't have got him but with Chelsea you see Kante pushed right up at times. He just knows when to go. So we might not get THAT level but surely there's a midfielder that can also do both...support the "whole unit press" but drop into position to protect the 2 when appropriate? I don't know enough players to suggest a realistic option...can anyone else?
Iup Agreed that is good to see Rafa doing well with Newcastle Not sure that AOC qualifies as a bonifide CM though.....and we are yet to see much of our LB....Klopp clearly rates Moreno over him
So: 1. I think some critiques of players has been a little harsh out of frustration. I personally think Newcastle individually defended very very well at times. Moreno was ok, no worse than any other game, he's a full back trying to give everything. Gomez is a young cb playing rb. He made only one error and smashed a coyple of their lads. 2. While salah missed imo an easy early chance his failure to take down the post sturridge miss ball and just pass it home was terrible... but... He played fairly well. He played some nice passes in and did some really nice runs. 3. It's very hard carry passengers when you are up against it. imo mane and wijnaldum were passengers today. Sturridge was trying to get about and do something.
Actually no...just one who sees the other Muppets going forward and knows not to join them everytime. It may not be right but it'd be better!
Moreno had no final ball. Nor did Gomez. If we are to push both full backs forward and take such risk, at least do so knowing that they pose a risk themselves....It's not just their issue though, we are hardly a team that thrives on crosses. The opposition simply allow us the ball 40 yards out in wide positions because we (a) can't cross for sh*t and even if we could (b) we are not a an aerial threat.
