No meltdown. Just questioning why we didn't bring in one or two attacking players. Specially as we sold Jay as well.
Not really a meltdown, just highlighting that we've been **** for a good while now. Not one consistent 90 minutes of being a decent side.
I thought selling Jay was the right decision at the time. Then the window shut without a replacement. I know we may have been after one or two players in Jays position but it was a huge failure not to bring anyone in.
I was really proud of the board in the summer for saying no to selling players and keeping Virgil, Ryan and Cedric etc. Now they've made quality signings in Lemina and Hoedt don't get me wrong, but it's almost like they think this buys them enough brownie points for not signing a single player in the one position we needed reinforcing.
It's interesting to see how people can have such varying degrees of interpretation of what constitutes "played well" - could you expand your theory and sway ( can I say the majority of us? )
We won't get rid of all of them. But we'll need to get rid of some of them if we're to have space for those better players. I'd be quite content to bring in, say, Vietto in the winter, and then sell Long/Austin + Tadic/Redmond + Davis and bring in 2-3 more attackers. We cannot continue on with this personnel grouping (even with an addition here and there) and expect anything more than what we're getting.
Keep Davis as a deep lying player. Keep JWP. Keep Long and Redmond Sell Austin and Tadic and bring in 3 players.
Stand down chaps, everything is perfect. Not allowed an opinion or to criticise the team we all pay money to go and watch. In all seriousness Tom, thought Mike Jones had a good game today
I'd like to see this team given a go.... Forster Cedric VVD Wesley Bertrand Romeu Lemina JWP Tadic Boufal Gabbi Shane would be a great option from the bench to stretch the game in the second half.
Not really a meltdown. I forgot you can't say anything negative about Saints without it being a meltdown
I suggested after the Watford game, that we looked at how they played when in possession. Everyone, except for the CBs and one defensive midfielder, went forward at pace. United, last week, did similar. Why we can't do the same, throughout the game and not just when we are chasing the game, puzzles me. If we had a Hazard, a Silva or a de Bruyne type of player, we could possibly get away with the ultra slow build up, in the knowledge that we have someone who can open up a packed defence. We don't have anyone of that quality, so, for me, we have to adapt to a different attacking style. I think it is time Redmond kept the bench warm for a couple of games, as he is bringing nothing much to the team. Tadic, I think, is showing good signs, so I would stick with him for now.
Hmmmm, not sure about either of them tbh. Vietto just strikes me as Gaston mk II and Alcacer is anonymous without service
