i have seen both UK and USA at !st hand and if you want quality then its the USA hands down but then you have to pay for it and its not cheap for the GOV or the people . Both need something in the middle . Some people in the USA will not get a opp done or take a pill because of the cost . And in the uk you cant have that pill because it costs to much so its not on the NHS you can have anther one that might not work for you
French system is great...... you pay a small amount.... waiting lists are so much shorter than the UK
Australia's Medicare system is not too bad either. You pay through the tax system - 1.5% levy on taxable earnings (or 2.5% above a certain threshold if you don't have your own private insurance). In terms of GP visits, Medicare will refund a 'scheduled fee' once you have paid the GP. Unfortunately, some GPs charge more than the scheduled fee & you have to bear the cost difference. Hospital treatment is free, but there is a set charge for prescriptions. To be honest though, I've yet to come across anything better than Scotland's NHS. I guess it may be a postcode lottery & if I lived in Glasgow or Edinburgh it may well be different, but I can't fault the GP's, hospital doctors, nursing staff & surgeons up here - have nothing but praise for them all.

I agree with you barry - we should be in there. I was at one of those matches - the Hibs v Barcelona game, my first experience of 'excitable Latins'. Living in Edinburgh at the time, I'd gone along to watch my 'secret' hero of the day, Joe Baker (secret because I was a Hearts supporter). He had scored twice in the first leg 4-4 draw at Camp Nou, and didn't disappoint by scoring the opener in this leg. My main memory of the match is the antics of the Spaniards. When the ref awarded Hibs a penalty with five minutes left and the score 2-2, they chased him around the pitch & then set upon the police who had gone on to help him - held the game up for over five minutes from memory. At the final whistle, they again chased the ref, who fled into his changing room and locked the door. The stud marks from their boots were left in the door right up until the ground was redeveloped around 15 years ago - were part of the stadium tour. It wasn't just the penalty that annoyed them - the club were so up themselves that they had entered both the European Cup and the Fairs Cup that year, believing that they could win both. Much to my mirth, they didn't win either.

I can only feel sorry for those in England & Wales - and really annoyed with both Labour and Tories in Scotland for continually claiming that SNHS is worse under the SNP government. Every piece of researched performance data shows that it outstrips the rest by a long way, yet they continue to lie.

Good morning all from a damp island. If I manage to leave on time, this time tomorrow I should be on a flight from here to Gatwick to then head for a week at my Mum's. I chose the first flight of the day so I could get to Watford sooner - what I hadn't considered was that the Jersey Marathon is tomorrow, and if I had chosen a later flight, my journey to the airport would be more complicated due to road closures which take effect from 8 before the race starts at 9. If I'm over for long enough, I like to try and see WFC but as it's the international break, I decided to go to a League One game. The 3 options in terms of easiest to get to on public transport were Charlton, MK Dons and Northampton. I've already been to Charlton, and I like to visit grounds I haven't been to before, so I'm going to Northampton based on a feeling I'd prefer it there to MK.
