More poetry..... THE DAY MY DOG SPONTANEOUSLY COMBUSTED there he was, chasing sticks, doing tricks, and all that stuff next minute, woof
Read this over my lunch break and it brought tears to my eyes. Ordinary people who have had their lives stolen from them and for those who are still alive, things will never be the same: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/resources/idt-sh/Grenfell_21st_floor Also shows that it's not just "poor, deprived" people who live in council high-rise flats.
Yes, I read it earlier too. There was a diverse ethnic mix of families and groups in that 21st floor. Like it was one slice of whole building. Sadly, it was the measures in cost-cutting, gentrification, so as to improve the view for those not wanting to see the original eyesore of a hi-rise building, and not 'doing the right thing' by people, which led to the fire. How many times must we learn this lesson after the fact, rather than using our reasoning to prevent it happening in the first place? That's what logical reasoning gives us - ability to predict scenarios. Which is why the 'layperson' residents had their suspicions, fears and accumulated knowledge. This wasn't one of those situations where nobody could have predicted an outcome. But anyone responsible passed the buck, instead of standing up. More than their job was worth, I've no doubt.
I keep six honest serving-men (They taught me all I knew); Their names are What and Why and When And How and Where and Who.
Where would we be without Spike Miligna [the well known printing error] Said Hamlet to Ophelia "I'll do a sketch of thee. What kind of pencil shall I use 2B or not 2B?"
Spike Milligan: Said Hamlet to Ophelia, I'll draw a sketch of thee, What kind of pencil shall I use? 2B or not 2B? Edit: TSS beat me to it, try this one instead! Say Bazonka every day That's what my grandma used to say It keeps at bay the Asian Flu' And both your elbows free from glue. So say Bazonka every day (That's what my grandma used to say) Don't say it if your socks are dry! Or when the sun is in your eye! Never say it in the dark (The word you see emits a spark) Only say it in the day (That's what my grandma used to say) Young Tiny Tim took her advice He said it once, he said it twice he said it till the day he died And even after that he tried To say Bazonka! every day Just like my grandma used to say. Now folks around declare it's true That every night at half past two If you'll stand upon your head And shout Bazonka! from your bed You'll hear the word as clear as day Just like my grandma used to say!
Yes, me and my wife having a short break here. Stunningly beautiful city, and the weather has been fab too!
Was in exact same spot a year ago....taking a night time river cruise up the Danube. Lovely city...nice cakes.
I wasn't sure whether to put this here or on the music thread but here it is anyway. Today we visited Margit-sziget, or Margaret Island, in the middle of the Danube between Buda and Pest. It's a fabulous, quiet, green space about a mile long away from the bustle of the twin cities, and its most endearing feature has to be the musical fountain. With just water, light, and a few hundred computer-controlled pumps they make water dance to music. There are loads of videos on YouTube, find one you like, but here's just an example:
Had a couple of e-mails offering Ryanair flights. Who the hell would book Ryanair at the moment....or ever! Ratner comes to mind....will they ever recover from this.
For my holiday next week, we are flying BA return to Athens. We have already booked Ryan Air from Athens to Santorini....wish me luck.
