This is my bump today, a thread from 4 years ago in September. New unproven manager, questions over signings, struggling to beat teams 'we are supposed to be beating' and finding it difficult to score from open play. SOUND FAMILIAR?
It's quite funny seeing the comparisons to Nige when it was pretty clear that Poch took us to the next level almost immediately. *awaits a comment by me being dug out*
Now normally I think "Who is this dickhead bumping old posts" but you have a point here. If ever we needed proof that football fans are a bunch of moaning prats who are never happy, this is it. Before anyone says, I do include myself here, and note I do not say "Saints fans". Anyway, stop bumping posts, you silly sod. There we go, that's my illogical moan for today done.
I'm dreading the point where my cautious approach to posting ended and my torrent of drivel commenced. So far pretty safe but more recent threads . . . .
BIggest difference is timeframe: this thread was posted three matches into a season following one where our attack was fairly competent, having scored 49 the year before (defensively, it was a tire fire). Now we're seven matches into a seasons following one where (with roughly the same personnel) we were one of the weakest attacking outfits in the PL. It's hard to point the finger at bedding in our signings, because we didn't sign anyone in attack, or suggest that players are still learning the system, because the system appears to be functionally identical to the one we used last season, despite a new manager.
