Our toffee papers are the teams we must beat and we have a history of failing against them more than we should. Whether these teams are in those positions or likely to be, [by virtue of predictions or betting trend ] that's teams likely to be in 18th to 24th positions ...... so far we have played Barnsley ............ 3pts Birmingham ...... 0 pts Brentford ........... 1 pt Millwall ............... 1 pt that is 2 H and 2 A just 5 points from a possible 12, 7 points should be on the board from these 4 fixtures Coming up we have BOLTON (h), BURTON (h) and the unlikely SUNDERLAND! (a) to see us finish our first 3 months and 15 games, a third of the season gone. There should be at least 6 points available here to make our total up to 20 [ at least] 2016/2017 6th Bristol City P 15 .. pts 24 .. GF 23 .. GA 17 .. dif +6 so we need to pick up 5 points from LEEDS (h) IPSWICH and FULHAM (a) to be in front of last season! in short, 11 points from 3 home 3 away ...CAN WE DO IT? AFTER 18 GAMES ( 03/12/16 )LAST SEASON WE STARTED A BAD RUN WE WERE ON 24 PTS AND DIDNT GET A POINT UNTIL THE LAST DAY OF JANUARY 2017 2 MONTHS LATER. AT LEAST3 OF THOSE 8 GAMES WE SHOULD HAVE GAINED AT LEAST 1 PT
Have you ever had a toffee or other sweet that when removing the paper it seems to stick to the fingers come what may! hence the saying like a "sticky toffee paper" its hard to get rid of! the saying was used by someone else the day before I posted in respect to someone who was hanging on to their group, but not part of their group ... Joe is like a sticky toffee paper you just cant get rid of him! it basically means "cant rid of " .. and applies to almost anything ex girl friend, headache, etc etc or a habit, like losing to certain groups of teams ...hence using the term for our results against the 17th to 24th placed ones.... had we drawn or beaten Birmingham, had we beaten either of Brentford or Millwall then we would have been 4th 5th or 6th in the table..... we must beat teams in the bottom 7 or 8. and in previous seasons our record is not great ... to win the league you have to aim for an average of 2pts a game top 6 finish aim for 1.75 pts a game mid table better than 1.2 pts a game to get yourself relegated... lose against most especially those in the bottom 8 we are currently on 1.56pts [2 dec pts] a mid table top 12 finish
If my Auntie had balls etc. I believe Newcastle lost home & away to relegated Blackburn last season, but it didn't harm them much - not sure what their record was against other 'toffee papers' (presumably the point we nabbed from them at St James' Park was another example?). Obviously, some fixtures are tougher than others, but I think you're running close to being patronising. Why should we expect to win away at Birmingham and Brentford? Their fans would have had both of those as games they ought to win. I remember the season before last, ahead of our away game at Rotherham, which was described by some as 'must win' - well, we only drew and still survived, so not really a 'must win' after all. I do get the point you're making, but I think it's overly negative. If we can win away at Reading, but 'only' draw with Millwall at home, that doesn't make me feel worse than if we had drawn with Reading and beaten Millwall. ...That all said, I won't be happy if we don't get all 3 points against Bolton on Tuesday!
well, depends how old you are ! many moons ago before the advent of plastic / foil wrappers most sweets were either loose ... served up in a paper bag, or wrapped in paper, often with a film of wax on the outside. In ideal conditions used to open OK, but slightest temperature variation, allowed to get in a damp or humid environment or "warmed up" kept in pocket etc then "they became sticky" worst was toffee ones. Don't eat a lot of toffee's or boiled sweets now, gave them up when the paper wrapping them used to get stuck on the fingers, and .......................
Still wrapping it. Don't matter if it's paper or a leaf if it goes round it it's wrapping it. If they was loose in a bag then that's what it would be a BAG I will wait the next waffling informative come back.
you need a knowledge of the English language, difference between verbs adjectives and nouns. correct in a bag is a bag, although tenuously you could say because they are in a bag they are wrapped in a bag so the bag is wrapping, the bags were made of paper so really it is a paper wrapping!
