What makes you think that taking up permanent residence in the EU post Brexit will be an automatic right?

****ing incredible that you've lived in the EU and would consider doing so again (given the choice) and yet you want to deny our youth the freedom of movement that you have enjoyed.

    Self centred Tory

If you want to come to Europe to live after Brexit, then you must understand that we will be controlling our borders (like the Britain of your dreams), and, like you, will only be letting the British in if they are usefull to our economies. In the Brexit language which you will understand - we reserve the right to turn away undesirables. What works in one direction will work in the other. If you like you can apply for a 3 month residency for apple picking <laugh>

I'm sure my previous five complete tax year residency qualifies me. If not my wife qualifies for an Irish passport, failing that I will always be welcome as a HNW individual. It is nice to have the option but I'm sure remaining in the UK is the best, unless the Labour likely lads gain power. In that event much of the talent and finance will leave.

I think that we are safe from an invasion. Tax records will not help as there is not continuous residency. Wife will be welcome if she gets her Irish passport, but that does not apply to the other half. If you are that wealthy, €3M excluding property and €500,000 annual income, you will have the income taxed at 45%. That should be enough.

Doubt the French will approve to be honest, he failed to move there once and they're normally quite tolerant.

    Time for a story.
An American evangelist worth an awful lot of money from donations given by those who had see the Light he showed them was talking at a leadership inspiration conference.
He explained that when in NY he was down to his last 20 cents-he had absolutely nothing but the clothes he wore and 20 cents. He saw a church , door open, and a sad beggar at the door. He gave the beggar 10 cents, half of all he had, and entered the Church, whereupon he found God, turned his life around, with His help and now thanks to God he is where he is today.
Whereupon someone in the spell-bound audience stood up and asked
' So, will you give away half of all you have today ?'

Plenty of non EU citizens live in the EU, each member state has different rules for a residence permit. Basically you just need to show you can support yourself and will not be a burden on the state. Whilst the UK has a government with sensible tax policies I would not consider living in the EU full-time. To avoid the problem of being stuck with unsellable property the smart move would be to rent short or long term. I already have year round access to my daughter's villa in Spain.

    So true:
The wealthy give a few quid to some event and feel righteous....

I like this quote of Alexander the Great, not the nicest boy in the playground:

Bury my body, do not build any monument, keep my hands outside so that the world knows the person who won the world had nothing in his hands when dying“. Last words of Alexander the Great.

We come into the world with nothing and we leave with nothing...
