Dear Jurgen, Please sort out the back. Winning at Leicester was a lift, but we nearly threw it away. Credit to Simon Mignolet without him we should have come back with 0 point. Our back four were toothless apart from Moreno, credit to him he has taken criticism on the chin please log in to view this image We are playing well but needs to sort out the back before we can win the title or any trophy We have been giving away silly goals for too long. It must stop. According to Rafael Benítez, "if we score and don't concede we are going to win many matches" Fortunately or unfortunately we are playing his team on Sunday. Please do something about the back urgently.
He tried to buy a defender so he is clearly trying to address the issues. Was our only defensive option we targeted that wasn't for sale can be the only issue. Our problem is midfield don't help the defence out enough by always charging forward and we have a clueless captain who thinks he's better than he is.
Don't think buying just one CB is the solution though. Its a start, but as I see it we need at the very least a CB, LB, GK and a DM. But instead we bought two more attacking wide men and an inexperienced LB who is being left out for one of the worst defenders we've had.
The defence includes the goalkeepers. I suspect he had originally been unimpressed with Mignolet that's why he went and got Karius and installed him as no 1. Karius was clearly not it or was not ready. He will not be the one as I suspect he has lost his confidence. I think it is time that Klopp searched again for a top elite gk as unless he does that we will keep leaking goals. We want some one like Neuer, courtois or de gea. A GK who can rescue any mistakes our outfield defenders make. Because no matter how good, they will make mistakes. That second Leicester goal was a save by mignolet that went straight to Vardy. May be unkind but should have been pushed over the bar. How many times did we see De gea saving mistakes by the players in front of him? I honestly think that if we swap GKs we would be winning many more matches and will be going for the title.
I still think personally If we had a proper midfield and not full of attack minded ones it would help our defence and goalie out more. Install much needed confidence in them. But then I guess the argument could also be have a world class goalie will help the defence grow like it did with utd when they had Schmeichel.
I really have to disagree. Of course Mig could be improved on, but the best keeper in the world will concede often enough if he's constantly exposed. It's far too simplistic to say that changing the keeper will make the difference to a title challenge. In fact, one of Mig's strengths is his ability to stop shots when his defence leave him exposed. It's other aspects of his game that need improving. But the problem is much more complex than him, and so is the solution. And yes, it is harsh to blame him for Vardy's goal.
I think that's the point. We have been and are scoring at the other end. The problem is we are conceding as many as we are scoring. It is like trying to fill a tank with a massive leak.
Migs is part of the problem - the defence have no confidence in him, rooted to his line, no command of hos box, poor distribution and holds onto the ball for too long. He needs replacing but he’s not the only one.
We could do with a keeper, right back, left back, centre back, defensive midfielder and a box to box midfielder. Other than that like...
Of course. But to rely on our attack to always bail out the defence is not a long term sensible solution. We need a solid defence so that we can win 1-0 if necessary.
I simply don't get this logic. The best way obviously is to have both, but if you can only have one or the other there is no evidence to suggest that a strong defence is more effective in the long term than a potent attack. In fact I gave evidence earlier this year that showed the opposite, but some just refused to believe it because it conflicts with their preconceptions.
