Modern Goalkeeping styles

Good morning everyone,i thaught one of chippy's replies on the Leeds/Ipswich debate,deserved a look at.
it was his remark about Ipwsich,s second goal & whether it was a goalkeeper error.

Unfortunately it seems to be a modern trend imo for goalkeepers to parry the ball,these days,rather than smother/catch.As there is the chance of showmanship,no matter what the end result might be. All the great keepers from the past,did next to nothing spectacularly,but did most things brilliantly (Banks,Shilton,seamen,and more recently Schmeichel (peter that is),when we watch football matches I bet we all think why did he not just catch it,well it’s possibly because of the media coverage and a straight catch would just not look right in front of camera or to smother a low cross.this is just my opinion would be great to hear others on this subject.

He should have smothered the cross unless he goes down slower than my mrs.
But as our resident goalkeeping expert can tell us. If the keeper parries he must send the ball towards the relative safety of the corner flag and not towards the penalty spot with the empty net gaping.

You are very right. Think it's harsh to be too negative about him based on one game. Has made some good saves so far this season (without anything spectacular)

 

he started well but is getting back to his level of letting in 2 goals per game

Only 5 knew beating us was just a fluke.glad we haven't done that bad

 

How many points have the team at the top of the table managed in their last three games?
You guys keep benchmarking yourselves against the weak teams and thats why you are going down.

 

but we didn't lose to a bottom six team

 

6 I think and a defeat against us so they wont be top much longer
