This is a totally wrong assumption. The wider world are not interested in the slightest over fiercely contested liabilities. The EU could actually owe the UK money. If there is no tariff free access to the EU we should only pay up to the leaving date. The credit agencies are more interested in attitude to national debt, trading outlook, and the ability to attract inward investment. The UK scores highly on all three.
Yanis Varoufakis, the ex Greek Finance Minister knows all about dealing with the EU which is why he has recommended the UK gives up trying to do a mutually beneficial deal and just leave a.s.a.p. He knows they are willing to crucify individual member states for the good of the 'project'.
Rather unusual to see you enlisting support from the far left Of course there is a left wing case for Brexit - the EU. functions as a neo liberalistic club which could be an effective barrier to the type of nationalisation planned by Corbyn in the future. It is a very realistic possibility that Britain, post Brexit and without EU. regulation will swing to the left - because the Tories will be tainted with everything which goes wrong with Brexit. A result could well be that this is the last Tory government of the UK.
Left, centre or right, this guy has had some serious dealings with the eurocrats. His opinion is they are ruthless, and do not care what damage is caused for the sake of their political project.
I wondered why he came out with so much project fear crap!! He must have shared some dodgy stuff with Cameron, Obama and Carney for them to talk complete nonsense about Brexit.
"The eyes of the world are upon us" said the PM. Could have fooled me as I search the world news to find any comment at all.
Not surprising really, given that her 'speech' was delivered only to members of her own cabinet and English journalists who had been brought along to make the room look full. I think it more likely that the 'brains of the world' are wondering about her Schrodinger's Brexit - for the next five years or so, she expects us to both stay in the EU and leave, whilst at the same time both paying and not paying our EU bill...
Like 52% of the population I voted to leave expecting it to be 2 years after article 50 was triggered. It strikes me that the EU will continue to prevaricate until they get what they want and we give in. In 2 years we should leave, whatever the state of the negotiations and get on with life as Boris envisaged in his excellent article in the DT. I have no problem paying the EU what they are owed (if in fact they know and can provide the evidence - they have great difficulty in getting their accounts signed off by their auditors, which says a lot in my view). The EU court of justice needs to be told to take a hike. I actually wonder if Mrs May's speech was actually designed to get these Eurocrats negotiating properly and now if they fail to do so the the UK can say if you are still willing to play ball then we will just walk. I am depressed that we might face another 2+ years of euroism.
We chose to leave, they didn't push us. Why should we get what we want at their detriment? The dream team of Liam Fox and David Davis are facing real negociators, and are failing badly. We need them more than they need us. It's finally starting to look like we won't leave or will at least have a 2nd referendum. I'm quietly confident that this time, now that all the lies have been exposed, the result will be very different. I honestly think we'd get a 70-30 split in favour of staying, especially once the cost of living increases as much as it's predicted to.
The cost of leaving has been continually glossed over but it is starting to bite now...... take a trip to Europe and see what your £ buys you now
Sterling recovering nicely against Euro, ready for my trip on Saturday. GBP/USD highest since Brexit freedom day.
