Yup, we did to them exactly what Watford did to us. I said at the time how Watford played reminded me of what we do to big teams when we're on form.
Didn't think I would be disappointed with a draw before this game started but in the end I thought our chances warranted a goal. You could argue Herrera should have done better with his chance but we weren't dominated first half and controlled the second half.
Yes we didn't score again, but we kept one of the most potent attacks to one goal, and had more then our fair share of chances. A lot of good we can take from this. Can't see how some people can see this result as being bad...
I'm a satisfied Saints fan tonight, yes we didn't score but it was a hugely promising second half display against a top, top side today. If Dusan ever gets back to anywhere near to his best form then the goals will come i'm sure, he is just not playing instictively right now, but is getting into great positions. Redmond was much better today but I would start with Gabbi or Charlie and bring Long on from the bench as an impact player.
Predicted 1-1, but have to say, even with a point I might have been wondering what might have been. Really good show, but same old problems. Don't expect us to carve good teams open, but boy can we do better with the gilt edge chances like OR's.
United's pressing from the front was superb in the first half, but we totally dominated the second. Weird reading the Hoedt criticism - he was dominant again and Lukaku got very little from him all game. Did nobody on the streams notice Lukaku's push for the goal? Was right in front of me. Redmond had a good second half. I see the point in him far more than I do in a huffing and puffing Charlie Austin tbh.
Oh it was a push, I thought he slipped a little. Redmond was definitely the most effective I've seen him for while. Very happy with Hoedt. Lemina
I think what the Utd biased editing failed to show was that Lukaku shoved Hoedt away before the ball was delivered, putting him totally off-balance. It was a foul. I wouldn't mind them missing it, but they spent 15 minutes repeatedly commenting on Romeu grabbing a tiny pinch of Madman Fallover's shirt and the penalty Utd should have had. Eurgh. Sickening commentary.
Having a little listen to the match commentary via Radio 5: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/live/football/40953248 It's amazing. There are two teams playing here. Not ManU and another. The commentary is way less biased. I only meant to listen to a couple of minutes, but this is a much better match from here.
When you cannot score, you lose close games like this. It just takes one mistake, slip, or bad call. On the other hand, Man U is pretty good this year so holding our own against them is a positive sign. Last season I felt at times that while the defense was okay, we had to devote all our effort to it This season, I feel like the back four plus midfield is solid enough doing their jobs that we can attack more. We just aren't very good at it. The absence of a star, game-changing AM and/or striker is what always separates the also-rans from the big clubs. I suppose how you feel about this game depends on how satisfied you are with Saints being below the top tier.
That was encouraging. Playing like that will win us games....yes, we didn't score again, but United aren't exactly easy to score against. I'm happier about how this season will turn out now.
Top tier, as in what Top 4, Top 6? Think it's more about being realistic with where Saints are as a club, which is Top 8-10.
I listened to 5 live while watching the hockey. Pat Nevin is very good and certainly doesn't suck up to united. The entire second half he said how much better we were and how we deserved something. Hie mentioned several times how Lukaku was isolated because of our dominance. Nice to hear for a change. Can't comment on the game because I haven't seen any of it yet. Still, if anyone wants a row I can pretend
Second game in a row where the difference in having Lemina and Long in the team has been very apparent. Personally I still thought Redmond was very poor, but no complaints with the other ten players out there (Romeu had a dodgy first half, but turned it right around in the second). Hands down our best performance since the cup final. I still think Charlie is finished. With Utd having the extra CB on, I'd have gone Virgil up top over Austin.
Yes indeed. and I have stayed with it as it is thoroughly entertaining. You're right about Pat Nevin. His commnentary was quite accurate today [I did see the match] He doesn't suck up to ManU. He, very politely, calls a spade a spade, and takes no side unless it is deserved. Of course, this softens a fair bit if he co-commentates on a Chelsea match.
