Leaving aside the racist or not argument, I'm sure like me you were on the terraces and sang "..they're tired and they want to go to bed - for a ****", and other quaint, colourful ditties when you were far too young to get what they were on about?

I did indeed sing that disgusting song saint, but at a time when open racism and sexism and obscenities were the norm at every ground.
But I thought we'd moved on these days had laws to to keep people in check who sing similar or worse songs.
Stone is so far up Utd's rectum he hasn't got the bottle to call them to book about anything, his article should have condemned those that sung when told not to by the club they support.

I see Pep is singing from Maureen's songsheet regarding the League Cup, like Maureen at Real he will have managed Barca in the Spanish equivalent,it obviously never affected his winning ways over there.
He's spent almost £200m and has one of if not the biggest and best square in the Premier League, he's entitled to his opinion but I'm sure the lower league clubs won't be agreeing with him anytime soon.

They are entitled to their opinions, but their opinions often influence others in a way that they shouldn't. They're employees of our leagues and it's really sod all to do with them how we structure it.
Like you say, they have vast resources and huge squads and if they don't like the competition they can field a team of fringe players.
They'll all get valuable game time and can just go for the ride until they get knocked out, so what's the problem?
It's all a load of hot air and I hope others will see it that way.

It's a pointless cup and has been ever since arsenal pulled their team of kids antics and the disease has spread to fa cup.

The league cup is the equivalent of the cup winners cup in Europe. It just doesn't know it's dead yet.

I looked at the next round ties and thought.... shame they could be good cup ties but won't be.

I'm sure it means something to those clubs who aren't on the top table, though.

If people are not taking it seriously it is because the premiership or staying in it is so important that it dwarfs any other competition apart from the CL. But it exists and as long as it exists people should take it seriously especially those teams in the lower divisions. It is a chance for them to win some silverware as well as some top teams to test their reserves and youngsters. All the top teams are still in except us. If we wanted to give people outside the first team competition experience then we should have stayed in it for a while and not be booted out in the first round.

Yes, for the likes of City, Man United and other top sides it is a waste of energy but it should not all about these clubs. Football does not belong to them.

Then just perhaps it should have ended up where it belonged when the premier league split from the league. As a cup for league teams.

The only read on its played for is vanity for some rich clubs. Utd and Chelsea seem to want The record and then for the Europa spot.

Tottenham playing at Wembley all season makes the cup competitions a bit more pointless this season imo.

100% spot on. They cheapened it enough by playing the semi-finals there.

<ok> A bit like the idea of sticking the top clubs' 2nd teams into league 1 and 2. Massive joke from the PL thinking these leagues are only there to develop our players.

The finals of the two domestic cups is supposed to be played at a neutral ground, it's now Tottenham's home ground, should play the finals at the Emirates just to piss the Spuds off.

If they want it to be really neutral for this season take it back to Cardiff and the Millennium Stadium (**** calling it the ****ting Principality) piss off all the Londoners.
