Yep, and we'll still be in the Premier League come the end of the season. Any odds being offered on it being abandoned, by the way?
http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/sa...rino__Two_strikers_is_not_the_answer/?ref=rss Pellegrino on why he doesn't favour two strikers as a means to improve our goal scoring problem. I think it is more of a case that there is no point in playing 2 of our present strikers....he might feel differently with other players. The problem for me is that it is a shame that our single striker isn't in the Pelle or Lambert mould. Austin is similar, but not as good. Long offers something, but really needs to play off someone. Gabbi needs better supply and shouldn't be back hunting for the ball. I think he may go for Long again.
This is the strongest utd team for some seasons. Whilst I think our defence is better, their attack, their physical presence, their speed and fitness is very strong. We will raise our game for this one. Utd can't raise their game anymore. In fact a bit of complacency may creep in against lil ole Southampton. Keep it tight, we can frustrate them and win this. Maybe not a 6-3 but a win all the same. COYR
Everyone has to be on their game...apart from the obvious skills, we also need that bit of luck....point blank saves from Forster, them hitting the crossbar, biased refereeing in our favour. Happens with other teams, can happen for us. This is the most doubtful I have been against United in our present incarnation...I suppose that is what struggling to score does for you.
I get that you want JWP for his dead-balls, but I think we'll be overrun in that case with no Davo. Id have JWP on the right
I am inclined to agree with MP2, about the 1or 2 striker thing, but (and I know I am repeating myself) if he persists with only one striker then the likes of Tadic, Redmond and Davis MUST play closer to him. In essence, our attacking four, imo, need to be playing in a diamond (there I've said it) which automatically creates angles for 1-2s, but above all the supporting three need to get into the box, in goal scoring positions (a la Davis last week) more often than they have in the past. At the moment, when Tadic or Redmond cut inside, that first movement still has them too wide to unleash a shot on goal, so they take another touch, and another, before being closed down, dispossessed or turn back on themselves. As I say, I am repeating myself, but for me they need to be playing, in old money, as inside forwards. But they must also inject a bit of randomness into their movement, because they are so easy to pick up, and mark, by their sticking so rigidly to their starting position. I mentioned last week how Townsend, playing as a right winger, made a run (in the first minutes) that put him between our right sided CB and right back. I would like to see this kind of off the ball movement that gets opposition defenders thinking "Where the feck did he come from?" Simple is this management malarkey.
Absolutely right Fran, as with all games result could 'rest on many things and Will hopefully go our way. An individual piece of skill, an error, a deflected bit of luck, a ref or linesman decision, Helen staying completely away from the match, could all help us getting 3pts.
"a ref or linesman decision" In our favour, against Man Utd? Recent history will show that we don't get that kind of luck.
I liked Mauricio's comments yesterday about formations....he said, it is not a truth, it is my opinion. There's a few fans who could learn from that.
Not Joking, I have been living in the US for 24 years and do not think there was any cat protection when I was growing up in Southampton. A good cause.
I'm off on my holibobs tomorrow (floating around the Llangollen canal between pubs for a week) so I can't influence the outcome. So far I've been to 2 home games and we've lost both 2-0, so I reckon me being in a separate country might help! I'm not expecting great things, but a narrow win would really please me! COYS!!
In which case Bet365 really should have paid me out on the £500 I had on United at Stoke. Obviously those two goals they conceded there were subsequently disallowed
we should play as if we were the away team as thats where most our points seem to come from these days!!!
