I read American Psycho before watching the movie... I was hugely disappointed in the movie because he did not rub cheese on the ladys pussy, shove a tube up there and let a rat devour her insides
Iain Banks Complicity with Jonny lee Miller was pretty cool, not quite as graphic as the novel but a very good attempt ( bear in mind this is a Banks book!) Millers Scottish accent werent bad either. Ian Mcewans Enduring love with Daniel Craig was a bold attempt, fell a bit short but a damn sight better than the Attonement effort which ( bizzarely ) won tons of accolades. the mr men series was pretty good too, translated very well from book to film i thought.
748 was pretty cool to ride, lighter and more agile whilst still maintaining the cool looks and awesome sound ( cheaper on insurance too ) a win win situation if you ask me.
Whilst I agree with you about Fear and Loathing, I still think Gilliam did as good a job as anyone could do. Any book like that will be pretty hard to transfer to the big screen and do it the credit it deserves, same could be said for Naked Lunch. What I do love about the film is how Depp portrays HST, pretty spot on I think. Ah, devil ether!
there were rumours of Sebastian Faulks Bird song being made into a film. if true, best of luck to whomever takes it on, it wont be easy.
Smiler, your dead right, its a no win situation trying to turn that into a movie, what was made is still a great movie, only loosely based on a great book!!
The film did have me roaring in places but most of that was Benicio Del Toros' portrayal of Dr Gonzo, Hunters 'attorney'. I didn't like Depps performance at all but it was probably down to the fact that he permanently had the cigarette holder in his mouth which made it impossible for him to convey much emotion apart from with his eyes. Big let down for me, but the book stands right up there with my favourite of all time. Nearly had a tattoo done of the hitchhiker done on my leg at the time, glad I never now but I was messing around with all sorts of **** like they were about 20 years ago!
I was watching "Kill the Irishman" the other night and I knew nothing of the film before I watched it. After about 20 mins in it became evident that it was a movie adaptation of a book (I actually just googled to confirm this about 3 mins ago after this thread reminded me of it) - they were just jumping from scene to scene with so much happening and changing between various periods of the guy's life without giving much in the way of movie or character development that it was obvious that they were following the plot of what was probably an epic book, which had to be squeezed into a two hour movie. They did exactly the same with "Mr Nice", leaving out huge chunks and not properly developing the character like they did in the book.
That's a fair assessment of Kill The Irishman Mick. I did enjoy Mr Nice though but that's probably because I haven't read the book.
