Probably because most of us support our team and aren't ready to throw in the towel just yet.

FFS Arsenal got a trophy for losing a preseason game and we don't get one for this?

They say it's the hope that kills you - not true: it's the cessation of oxygen to your brain essentially turns off all it's functions and connections that does that.

Racist utd fans need to stop singing.

    www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/41317495

They won't make any noise now then. In all seriousness though, they could have toned the message down instead of branding it racist. However how come this song gets picked up, but when you have other derogatory chants no one does anything about it.

Not really though Bobby, I know you and Donga have Chinese roots, so if there was a terrace chant referring the the Chinese race in fast food terms etc would that be stereotypical racism?, ain't saying it would bother you or Donga(maybe it would)but it would obviously offend some in the same way the "black penis" thing has come back to **** Man Utd fans in the rear end.

to be honest i see things differently to Donga and the rest of the world.

If something is said deliberately to offend, then for me that would be racist.

Admittedly i can't say what is offensive to others but theoretically anything you do or say could offend someone.

I was taught if you can't laugh at yourself then you cannot laugh at anyone at all.

Maybe i'm too blase or maybe as the extreme chinese folks i've seen will say it's because i'm conforming to chinese stereotypes of being weak and staying silent rather than fighting back or that i've been indoctrinated but this sort of stuff isn't the "really racist" stuff that we need to be stamping out although you could argue its the first step.

As for the terrace chants on chinese race (well similar enough as its from that part of the world) there wasn't a big hoo ha as far as i'm concerned when they were singing about Park Ji Sungs song about him eating dogs.

Maybe i'm too old school but people are going soft nowadays.

I see your point regarding your personal view, and yes things have gone PC especially since the internet, but until the older generation that remember the "no Blacks, no Irish and no Dogs" era are gone things won't change with regards to issues like this, the simple solution to the Lukaku thing is to stop singing it and for their club to ban the song within the stadium.

But, them being them as supporters they think they're a law unto themselves.<whistle>

I think it is about reinforcing stereotypes.

I am not sure whether Lukaku himself would be upset by a song which "labels" him as having a big snake in his trousers. May be he is who knows?

But it is more about stereotyping people : like all Koreans eating dogs, all Latin americans as...(Donga used a stronger term which would equate as untrustowrthy). I think we all have examples of ethnic groups being labelled as having a specific trait. For the jewish people, for the French, for the Indian people. These come very very close to being racist.

The question is: if you stereotype a group of people as being very intelligent, is this "racist"?

Likewise if i stereotype Caucasians as being tall is that a bad thing?

Are stereotypes even bad? Admittedly i still use them, typically black people are more built, chinese people are generally scrawnier and shorter. Whenever i go back to Hong Kong to play football, you can guarantee that i'll look like messi out there (i was once described that haha) as 9/10 of them don't like a physical battle or like to header the ball (either because it hurts their head and/or it will mess their hair up) so will always let the ball bounce.

Here i'm the little weakling and inferior football player.

What about cultural stereotypes? For example, it's well known you need to look after yourself a bit more in India (whether its due to culture, or poverty, male to female ratio etc) is that racism as you've stereotyped travelling there or likewise in Japan where they are one of the most polite people in the world?

At the end of the day though, everyone is an individual especially when it comes to personality traits so if you take your stereotypes and have pre conceived views of people without changing your mind then that is bad.
