Agree with that, but Watford also closed us down better and played more proactively....was going to say aggressively, but that has negative connotations.

Only took one good performance...at least according to Philip Neville. I think even Liverpool may actually want to see a whole season. I hope Mario will be brilliant every game, but few players are...he will learn every game he plays. Mustn't pile the hopes and dreams of all Saints fans on his shoulders yet.

Obviously Lemina had the biggest impact, but all four of the players who MP brought in made a huge difference. OK, that was only compared to the Watford performance, so we could hardly have played any worse - and indeed, one could suggest that most of those changes were just rectifying mistakes made in the XI chosen to play Watford - but nonetheless they did all make a difference.

MP's subs, and to an extent his first XI selections, have been questionable so far in his early reign. But there's no doubt he was bang on the money with those four changes. (Even though not everyone agreed with them at the start)

I would have loved to see Gabbi on for Redmond after about 60 mins. Put him up top and Long to do the 'Redmond' job. However, as others have said, Redmond is a confidence player and that would maybe have knocked his confidence.

Unless you're winning about 4-0, I'm not sure you keep an under-performing player on just to avoid knocking their confidence.

And besides, how do you think Gabbi or Boufal or JWP feel, sitting on the bench whilst said under-performing player gets in ahead of them. That would hardly do their confidence (or, worse, respect/belief in the manager) any good.

Only three other Northern Irish players have scored more goals in the Premier League than Steve Davis (15).
Iain Dowie (33), Chris Brunt (24) and Keith Gillespie (17).
Another two years and Steve will be one behind Gillespie. <laugh>

    Sorry Steve

I don't think Redmond is lacking confidence, as shown by the times he tries to take on players and in getting two shots on target, from distance, yesterday.
I think he is suffering from inconsistency, as a direct result of not being involved in the game as much as he could be.
Much of our play yesterday, especially first half, was down the right, with Redmond being a virtual spectator, who when he was brought into the game seemed to be caught cold.
In my opinion, and as I said after the Watford game, our wide players (currently Tadic's and Redmond) should be playing more centrally, leaving the touch line to Cedric and Bertrand.
By stepping in by 10/15 metres, they will make our midfield more compact, allowing for more 1-2s, and they would become more involved.
They would also be better placed to support the lone striker in the box.

Just watching the highlights again on GoS, you would get the impression that we were second best and that CP were the dominant team but having watched it live nothing could have been further from the truth

Once again Ides, I just don't understand the concept that a Saints fan would be interested in any other team, certainly not one of our rivals just because they happen to be geographically close. That's like a Chelsea fan hoping all the other London teams do well. Stupid idea.

My ManU supporting work colleague admitted on Friday that they totally messed up Morgan and he'd have done better not to go there. Hindsight is wonderful...

Just watched the MOTD highlights and one would have thought that Palace were unlucky to lose.

Bale and Mane aside, it's hard to think of many who have improved since leaving us.

I highlighted the bit where you said you couldn't remember "a player... for 90 minutes".... my point was Morgan could do it for 90 minutes, not that he is like Morgan (although he is a bit). That's all.

It was bad luck for Morgan really that Jose Mourinho took over just after he joined.
