By which time you will be 12 or 15 points off the leaders ..................... a couple more bad games and your season will be over
This is tedious mate. You were god knows how many points behind the leaders in the last 2 seasons but you season was not over in October. If you wanna chat then feel free...if you wanna wum go to the prem board
It's just very frustrating when you watch a game where it feels like we've shot ourselves in the foot. Credit to Swansea though, they got their tactics spot on today, but they won't be the last to do this. We've seen it 3 games out of 5 so far at Wembley this season, and it'll continue unless we start countering these tactics with the right personnel.
When we beat Barnsley in the cup it won't mean anything as we have to win in the PL to break this hoodoo and that won't be for little while as our next two PL matches are away I think. West Ham and Huddersfield against whom we should take 6 points but this Wembley form in the PL is baffling. Poch started with the wrong team today in two or three respects and I hope he puts things right. Even if teams do park the bus we should be good enough to break the Swanseas down even if they are having a good away spell.
Sure we weren't very good but the decisions didn't go in our favour either. How many times did SAF's ManU get that penalty, or that decision that just turned the tide and had them winning 1-0. Then all the pundits trot out their usual cliche about a good team winning when they aren't playing well. And we did fashion quite a few chances, enough for one or more to have gone in regardless of the quality of the play.
Playing at Wembley is a factor: - it's unfamiliar - it's harder to play a pressing game across its vast expanses - it's not as intimate as WHL;'it's hard to create that home atmosphere which give teams an edge - opponents raise their game playing at the national stadium; it's an occasion for them. There's a psychological factor for both teams which is to Spurs' disadvantage. If I'm wrong with the theory, results still suggest there's some factor present which is affecting Spurs. Home record last season W17 D2 L0 This season - W0 D2 L1
Another game where we squeezed the pitch down to a third of its size and unsurprisingly we didn't score. Last Wednesday we were pressed into our half and punished Dortmund with pace on the counter. Sometimes I simply can't understand our insistence on pressing the game all the time. It pays to draw your opponents out and catch them on the break, especially with the abundance of pace we have which we seldom use. Baffling.
Same dimensions as the Hull, Newcastle pitches etc. "If I'm wrong with the theory, results still suggest there's some factor present which is affecting Spurs." The "factor" is that AVB 2013-14 does not work against bus parking.
Swansea did a good job, executed their gameplan well. That said: Why have Southgate and Poch decided that Dier can be the creative force in a midfield? Why did we persist with that when we had Winks and Dembele on the bench? What on earth was going on with the Ref's performance? I only just got back from the game so I need to see the specific incidents in more detail but it felt like we could have had one or two pens and we seemed to get penalised for winning the 50/50s Overall a frustrating day out. Players and manager must do better. With more tempo in midfield and more ambition in deploying the wide players, we could have got more than a point there.
But away games are different. Home teams are expected to come out and play. And whilst your away form was very decent last season, it was inferior to your home form by some distance.
Did Spurs have an alternative to using Wembley, and what was the rationale behind rejecting it. Did you have reservations about playing there ?
There was a period towards the end of last season when we asked the FA for a month's extension to the deadline by which we would need to submit our final decision Re Wembley. There were lots of rumours flying around as to what Levy was up to during this month, but the general consensus was that he was desperately exploring alternatives to playing in the vast, soulless cauldron of national failure. Suggestions even included sharing with Orient, MK Dons and we even apparently broached the idea of sharing with you. Although that suggestion travelled about as far as Trippier's average pass tonight. Most Spurs fans would much prefer to play all 38 games away from home. But I agree with most of my fellow posters. Today had very little to do with the stadium and almost everything to do with the team selection and set up. It is abundantly clear that certain players either aren't putting in enough effort (Alli, Dier) or just can't offer what Poch requires from them (Sissoko, Trippier and Son the non-LB).
