Did anyone see the story this week about a six year old boy being taken out of school by his parents because a child in his class sometimes goes in dressed as a boy and sometimes dressed as a girl and it's confusing him?

The school are supporting the child who has issues with sex/gender and are apparently allowing him to dress however he feels each day and claiming the other child's parents are transphobic. What with Tesco being slammed a while ago for labelling toys as boys and girls, where is this all leading?

At six they could be smart and degender the uniforms by making them a tracksuit style.

Or... they could ****ing relax and let all girls wear trousers

    Why degender?

I'm more concerned that a six year old has this problem.

Whilst i'm not in support of de-gendering a 6 year old (i guess this must be how old people view homosexuals), the other parents are nearly just as bad in taking their kid out of school just because he's getting confused. Tell their child to get on with it, it's not affecting him

Schools are already deficient and retrograde in how they teach sex ed let alone introduce kids to ideas around gender, identity and orientation so it's no surprise that nobody really has a clue how to handle this

It's that old English repression around sex isn't it where everyone apart from the Jeremy Kyle crowd go bright burning red whenever it comes up and change the subject as quick as possible

Ultimately it's leading to a genderless race of mutants who will build new communities on the fringes of the earth's atmosphere and space and live in transparent pods they build out of their own skin secretions

I've only seen a short interview with them but it seems they're not happy at the school taking sides on the issue. May seem petty to us but kids have been pulled out for far more trivial stuff like not being allowed to wear a certain hairstyle.

Depends what you mean by taking sides? Presumably taking sides as in they are allowing this 6 year old to come dressed as boy and girl? What other side of the story is there to it than the parents disagree and the school won't do anything about it?

I do think it is obscene that this 6 year old is being genderless, **** knows where that has come from but that still doesn't mean that the other parents can act like dicks.

Your kid not being to wear a certain hairstyle is a bit different, not sure where i'd fall in that category but probably tell my child just to get on with it

School uniform is a big issue here in itself

The argument would be that the idea of a uniform is objectifying in itself

I mean, this is some advanced for his/her age 6 year old we're talking about if they're already questioning gender constructs

What is the cognitive or emotional ability of a child that age to actually have complicated and sophisticated thoughts and opinions about themselves that are like that ??

Is this a case of the child just wanting to 'play girl' or 'play boy' in a completely innocent, childish way

I dunno what experts would say on this, the law I guess says that 16 is when you're sexually mature and able to make those kind of decisions but the law isn't reality
