It'll be a pen, and only if they're stupid enough to foul us. <laugh>

Don't we have to be in their box for it to be a pen? Only way it could happen is Gabbi makes a great run across and between the 2 centre backs, as Davis looks up looking for a pass defender clips Gabbi taking him down. Ref gives the pen as Davis passes back to the centre back.

I have heard fans talk as if penalties are nothing compared to goals from open play....and I get what they mean as we are lacking such goals....but I always point out that usually penalties result from good play. If you get a penalty it is often because you have put the opposition under some pressure....though sometimes they result from idiocy. :) I would love us to win by 2-3 penalties and will worry about the lack of goals from open play after the points are on the table.

P.s. I would also accept a penalty that was not a penalty after dissection by pundits and ex-refs. <laugh>

I note that MP2 (when asked about Hodgson) said that context was everything....which I assume means that whatever Roy has done in the past may not be so effective at Crystal Palace. He certainly didn't praise him particularly....which other managers interviewed did....presumably because his knowledge is scant from his previous time in the EPL (when Hodgson was at Fulham) and he doesn't realise that he is supposed to join in on a love-in.

I agree Fran, they all count. I'd also take absolutely any goal in our favour. If I was Roy though, I'd be telling his men not to press us in the final third and wait for us to give them the ball back, because it optimises their chances of getting a clean sheet.

Our two penalties, against WHU, not only came from putting them under pressure, but came as a direct result of players (Davis and Yoshida), other than strikers, getting into the box. Although you could mount an argument for Davis being in the box on a more regular basis.
We have made it far too easy for defenders as a direct result of not getting enough players into dangerous areas, leaving them to just mark the player they were probably tasked with marking during the pre-match team talk.
We need to be more "random" in our attacking play, and our midfield players need to be making runs to get ahead of the striker, and across defenders, to create doubt and space.
We could learn a lot from just watching how Watford threw players forward, when they had the ball, but we seem to put too much emphasis on maintaining team shape, even when we have the ball.
Watford played with a freedom of movement, whereas we play as if in shackles, not being allowed to play outside of zones.

Plus we'd have to score it and we've scored our last two.

    Football gods won't like that.

I've read a lot about Hodgson and how he performed at Fulham and WBA, his only two "successes" in english football, he was crap at Blackburn and Liverpool.
His win percentage wasn't much to write home about at either Fulham or WBA either and the game has moved on a bit since then too.

No. It's a bit of a dreary suburb, and miles from central London, though the overground is quite efficient these days.

Sellhurst Park has character - as well as restricted views, but you can't have everything. I'd recommend a visit, but only for football as there's basically **** all else there.

The difference being you always got the impression Poch was building something here. Roy is a caretaker type.

Indeed. I also got the impression Puel was trying to build something too, but stumbled a bit and wasn't given a fair chance.

I won't be writing off Pellegrino for a while yet either. I haven't seen any signs of a definite vision yet, but that doesn't mean there isn't one.

If we're seriously comparing Pochettino and Hodgson, I will pull my one remaining hair out.

Oh I agree for sure, just pointing out that his win percentage wasn't as bad as SA was making out for that/our level of club by pointing out Poch had a very similar record here <ok>

I most certainly am not <laugh>

    Sounds like Old Trafford

We need to give them songsheets although they may wonder why they're singing about getting guns and shooting people :1980_boogie_down:

We should offer an immersive experience to tourists and put them in the Northam in the nearest seats to the away fans <whistle>
