Did he fail the 'training with' trial at Birmingham?

He's still there on trial, but hasn't been offered a deal yet.

the way Brum have started, worse than us, I wouldn't be inclined to turn to Bassong, when he can't get a deal with 'Arry.

I do, as I've now seen two players do the same thing after scoring and apparently one was a tit for doing it.

Unless I'm mistaken, wasn't one at home and one away? Might that not change things a teensy-weensy bit?

Why would it change things in the slightest? Both gestures were aimed at City fans.

Just seems a silly thing to get wound up about.

People got very wound up about Grosicki, that's all. Sorry for asking a simple question, didn't think there was an argument here.

I guess that's why I was asking. Seems to have more to do with the perception of the player than the action. That's all.

Bowen keeps his head down, says the right things, and bangs goals in for fun. Growshitski acts like a soap opera on twitter and has a good game now and then.

Exactly. Bowen does it to say "I'm grateful that I am playing for you supporters, keep on cheering for your club to spur us on.",
whereas Grosicki does it to say " You should cheer for me because this is what I can do, so stop moaning you ungrateful bastards."
Day vs night difference in the reason for the gesture. Clearly indicates their respective attitudes.

Our attacking side really isn't our problem.

Its our defence, as simple as that. Bruce's Championship team could absorb anything thrown at them, everyone knew what they where doing, no space given at all, and Livermore and Meyler simply overpowered the opposition. We could get promoted on scoring 60-70 goals. This year we have inexperience all over the back line, no dominant midfielder and far to many new players.

I think we do have a dominant midfielder. You mentioned him above. We just need to play him.

Honestly, if we're pinning our hopes on Meyler, we are royally ****ed. Not meaning to be overly critical of him, but come on.

The reality is that we have problems all over the field.
We are at least 3 to 4 quality signings short (that means very good, experienced players, not promising kids just out of nappies).
Defence is a mess. Aina looks ****e as a RB (not even a patch on Elmo who wasn't really a RB). In the centre, we ought now to have sufficient, but the sum of the parts is currently far less than the individual parts.
In CM, Meyler should be a good back up, not the main man. Hopefully Stewart is good when he is finally fit. In truth, we are probably 2 short still.
Then we seem to be overloaded with Henrikson, Evandro, Toral, Larrson, Bowen, Irvine type options, for at the most one position.
Someone with real presence needed up front, either as a starter or a plan b.
And Slutsky probably needs help too, in terms of both on and field matters. Instead he has nobody bar our ex-academy guy, and gets hung out to dry by Ehab.

Things will surely improve as Slutsky gets more time to work with what he's got. But the fact is, we are well short.

Are we not bothering with an assistant this year?

Nothing wrong with Meyler in this division. He should be the first name on the team sheet. Experienced international footballer respected by his team mates and most fans. Knows the club, knows the division, gets around the pitch well.
