What a thoroughly enjoyable evening that was tonight at Wembley even the journey was good. Firstly Dortmund a class act on and off the field, but what an important win that was for us. Too tired to make any real sense of it now, but Harry is priceless, Aurier and Sanchez look like excellent additions and we have won at Wembley good night all.

I've been thinking. I don't want to say Spurs will beat Madrid and on the other hand I don't want to say that Spurs will lose to them or draw with them. I'm going to watch how their matches fan out over the next few weeks before we meet and compare them with ours. IF I was a gambler I'd secretly put money on a Spurs win. EVERYBODY thought we'd lose to Dortmund but having seen their team and their last result I felt differently. Madrid haven't been that great in their league I believe drawing their last two home matches so I'm hopeful of three home points.

Dortmund played well tonight so I'm going to take them to beat Madrid at home.

Us to beat Apoel, Dortmund to beat Madrid so after the next match the group looks like this.
    Spurs 6.
    Madrid 3.
    Dortmund 3.
    Apoel 0.
    That's all for now.

Ah lads (and ladies), what a ****ing night.

So it started off ****, work dragged a bit, when I finally got to Liv Street the bloody Metropolitan Line had signal failure so ending up getting Central Line to Bond Street and then Jubilee to Wembley Park, literally walked into Wembley as Son scored, I was celebrating with some fellas at the top of the gangway leading to the seats!

Game itself was mad, it's not often we see Spurs be dominated possession-wise but Dortmund had the lion's share and they produced some heart in mouth moments.

Most have covered pretty much everything on the game, great finishes from Son and Harry, Harry's second came at impeccable timing.

Defence really done their part, all of them superb. Aurier had a shaky first 20 mins but then bossed it. Davies is making me Google Danny Rose, I don't think I'm being OTT when I say Ben has quite possibly been our best player in the opening weeks of the season. Back three were ****ing monsters, gutted about Jan's red, though, couldn't see it from where I was sitting but heard it was a swinging arm.

So game finishes and I decide to go Wembley Station way home (usually go Wembley Park). The plan was to get the train to Marylebone, then onto Oxford Circus and then onto Seven Sisters where I can get the overground to Silver Street in which I live 5 mins from. So I get to Oxford Circus and it's rammed, like mentally rammed. The train pulls up and it's ****ing rammed on there too - couldn't get on. Had to miss another two trains before finally getting one that had sufficient room. Get to Kings Cross and the driver says on the speaker "sorry ladies and gents, train's being held for a while due to signal failures". I was like **** my life, especially after the journey to Wembley beforehand. After ten minutes I was getting too hot and flustered, so I thought '**** it', I'm getting off (doors were open while we were waiting as driver knew trains were rammed). Had to go for a piss, so went to the public toilets where they try charging you money at the turnstiles, now in my opinion being charged to take a piss is a joke, so being the gangster that I am, I spotted that the gate next to the turnstiles which the attendants use to wheel stuff in looked a bit shaky. Managed to lodge it open and there were a bunch of Irish lads behind me trying to get change from the machine, they realised my master-plan and followed me through the gate, thanking me as if I just fed the 5,000 even though I just basically saved them about 30p each, though as they were Irish, they naturally had cans of beer and cider on them, they decided to make me an honorary member of their group and blessed me with a can of cider as I went on my way to the bus stop to go home.

Moral of the story: When Spurs get a fantastic result but public transport pisses you off, make sure you get some Irish lads a free pass to take a piss as you'll get a can of beer/ cider out of it.

    COYS!

As an aside I want to say something more general about their goal. The commentators were spaffing over it and going on about how it was the best goal of the lot (when it was 2-1 I think). And yeah - it was a very good goal. But aren't those the type of goal that look really nice but actually aren't as hard as lots of other types? I mean, when it comes to you on the edge of the box at a nice speed, on the ground, isn't it quite easy to bend it into the inside of the far post? Okay, okay, I know I might be over-emphasizing it maybe but Son's goal, for instance, was at speed, on his weaker foot with barely anything to aim at.

I don't mean to say that those curling efforts to the other side of the goal are not beautiful goals. It just strikes me that they look disproportionately good for how difficult they are. Reckon I could score more of them given 100 opportunities than Son's goal. In fact I would be amazed if I got any shots in past the keeper on my weaker foot running at speed at a really narrow angle. 70% of the time I'd fall on my arse and miss the ball entirely...

It's not just all those years of playing Sensible Soccer that make me think that about the curling shots is it?! Oh God - maybe it is...

I'd rather a Spurs win with a Madrid v Dortmund draw. Both drop 2 pts would be better in the big picture.

  8. It was a lovely strike, but it was also one of the times that Dembele got caught out. Was on his heels and didn't close him down at all.

Just feel a draw's unlikely but I'd prefer it too.

I'd rather Madrid win. If we beat Apoel, the table won't look good for Dortmund. A physchological element then becomes apparent and they'll have to get results. That added pressure could work massively in our favour.
Dortmunds next game is at home to Madrid, so if they lose they've got huge ground to make up, presuming we win.
In the following set of fixtures, we then get the toughest one out of the way away at Madrid, where we'll probably get nothing, whilst Dortmund are away again at Apoel. Dortmund first 3 fixtures are awful. Granted, they haven't got Madrid away in a single fixture like we have, but the 3 games they do have overall are almost as bad in terms of how their home and away fixtures have been scheduled.

    • Son Heung-min has scored seven goals in nine competitive games against Borussia Dortmund.
    • Christian Eriksen has provided 20 assists in all competitions in 2017; seven more than any other player in the big five European leagues.
    • Harry Kane has been directly involved in five of Tottenham's six goals in September [four goals, one assist], after no goal contributions in August.

A few interesting stats taken off the Bbc report

Not as many as I thought it would be. A pundit said Spurs weren't selling tickets as easily as Utd and Chelsea and it appears he was right.

Did this pundit indicate when Chelsea last sold that number of tickets?
