What complete bullshit that is, you sound like you write for the Daily Mail Here's a Tory MP's view on it btw https://www.theguardian.com/comment...ords-commons-committee?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other
The majority of Tory MP's disagreed with the car crash that is Brexit...... https://blogs.spectator.co.uk/2016/...xit-who-doesnt-and-who-is-still-on-the-fence/
There are MP''s from all parties that would like some amendments nothing wrong in that. There are however some Labour MPs more interested in trying to bring the government down rather than progress with Brexit as the electorate demanded with the referendum. Try to debate without insults, I'm sure you can do it.
Every vote in parliament has seen a Tory Party united behind Brexit. They all voted to start article 50 apart from Ken Clark. No Tory voted against last night's bill. They may personally have supported remain but their duty to the electorate keeps getting them to vote with the government to push on with Brexit. They are democrats. In contrast the Labour Party are all over the place with different policies daily. One reason quite a few rejected Corbyn's lead last night.
The Labour Party's position on this bill was set out by it's leader. They oppose it because they think it's weak, woolly and leaves far too much leeway for the Govt to do as they see fit with the statute without parliamentary scrutiny. That's not trying to bring down the Tories, that's telling them to amend their paper, which is what their own backbenchers have been doing all week, despite voting for the Bill at the first reading. The idea that you were floating that to vote against this Bill is somehow an affront to democracy is preposterous. Bullshit wasn't an insult btw, it was an opinion.......and you do sound like you could write for the Daily Mail....that could be perceived to be an insult....
All of which is irrelevant to what I posted, the majority of Tory MP's think that Brexit is not the way to go.........but they're going along with it due to the referendum result. There'll be plenty reminding the electorate of their pre-referendum opinion in a few years time let me tell you......
I wonder how the people who struggle to get by feel when they they have to get a new pair of shoes for their kids, or need to get a new coat, or find that the weekly shop is costing them more? All a direct result of the pound crashing since the Brexit vote. Many of them will remember that they were told this would happen, but some politicians said it was false information. Of course these people don't exist in some parts of the country, they are still packing out the pubs and bars. There are more of the just about managing in the country than well off, and they will tell those who lied to them to clear off from their cosy existence sooner or later.
Tories are responsive to the party whip not the wishes of the electorate - they are more whippable (is there such a word ?) than Labour. Every party has different shades of opinion within it's ranks - Labour often wears those differences on their sleeve, which is a sign of being a democratic party. Tories just toe the party line whatever their consciences may tell them.
The pound is recovering well against the USD which is the main driver of prices. Sterling reaching its highest level for a year today. The economists have said today that the Brexit effect has already worked through the system and inflation will be on the way down. Everybody both leave and remain expected there to be some turbulence until Brexit was completed. There is almost full employment in the UK which helps tremendously, many other EU countries could only dream about our current employment levels. The low interest rates have been a massive cost reduction for those with loans, especially mortgages. This is why the UK does not have the high level of civil unrest like France is currently experiencing.
The pound took a bounce today in anticipation of BoE raising interest rates, the major traders have slowed down their shorting of the pound since the beginning of August in the hope that inflation would have taken another hike and thus interest rates would come under pressure. Which economists are these btw?
Correct, the Labour Party is split all over the place, what would you expect with a leader that made a career of opposing the party's leaders. The fact that most MP's have told Corbyn they have no confidence in him cannot help but have serious doubts about his ability. Tories and most Labour MPs have consistently supported Brexit through parliament because they believe in democracy, therefore they took the referendum result as their instruction from the electorate. The Tories always pull together when it matters, Labour are just a disorganised rabble at the moment. Quite understandable when the message from them changes daily.
Due to the pressure on the dollar on the global stage, not the strength of the pound. How's it done against the Euro in the same timeframe btw? These economists btw?
The effect on UK inflation is much greater for USD than the Euro. All of the goods from the Far East are paid for in US Dollars. The Euro has benefitted from investors moving away from the USD due to the problems with North Korea. There has also been some improvement to Euro financials after a long period of very poor growth. Sterling is bound to be affected by the uncertainties during Brexit. It will recover strongly against the USD and the Euro. The EU has many inherent weaknesses that have yet to be addressed.
Momentum have got their sights set on 'Traitor" Skinner. Internal warfare. Why doesn't Dennis Skinner just go and join the Tories?
Based on what? If we exit the EU without a trade deal and end up with the hardest of Brexits, then Sterling will be friendless. Sterling has benefited from investors loving away from the Dollar due to numerous reasons, that was my point..............
You should not worry about the UK after we ditch the EU. Britain second 'most powerful country in the world' and in 'strong' position post-Brexit BRITAIN is the second most powerful country in the world second only to the US, according to think tank. In a study conducted by the Henry Jackson Society, Britain’s economic power, technological prowess, military strength and cultural prestige means that the UK is in a “remarkably strong” position post-Brexit. The Henry Jackson Society’s executive director Dr Alan Mendoza said the findings debunked a widespread “narrative of decline” in which Donald Trump’s victory and the Brexit vote are presented as signs of both countries losing their global power. Dr Mendoza said: “For all the doom and gloom surrounding the implications of Brexit, the reality shines through that the UK remains a leading global power nation, with immense soft and hard power capabilities. The lesson of this report is clear: our future is what we choose to make of it.” The report “Audit of Geopolitical Capability,” compared Britain’s influence to the seven other major powers, China, France, Germany, India, Japan, Russia and the United States. It looked at 35 indicators including diplomatic leverage and military strength. Diplomatic leverage was measured by adding up the number of embassies operated by a given country and by analysing the strength of its security partnerships with international organisations, such as the UN Security Council. The report’s author James Rogers said:"After Brexit, some are worried that the UK is about to begin a period of economic and geopolitical decline. But what this audit makes clear is that far from beginning the Brexit process from a position of weakness, the UK is in a remarkably strong position. "When you analyse data regarding British military strength, technological prowess and cultural prestige, the UK is second only to the United States in its capabilities. Even in relation to economic or diplomatic capacity, it is consistently in the top five countries.” The United States scored 100/100 due to the country’s “vast and overwhelming resources and capabilities, with the means to extend them pervasively in all regions of the world. The other countries were calculated compared to the United States. The Henry Jackson Society classifies the UK as a “global power… with substantial resources and capabilities, with the means to extend them in many regions of the world" and gave the country a geopolitical score of 40.85 out of 100.” France came in third place with a score of 33.90 and China fourth with 33.84. Russia was ranked as the least powerful country with a score of just 16.16.
So the UK does well in a game of countries top trumps with an undefined set of parameters, that saw the US score a perfect 100/100 and Russia come bottom of the pile with 16.16. And to think this was created by a right wing think tank with right wing backers........ That seals it then Brexit is a nailed on success These economists btw?
