Hmmm. But the European union workers who are in the country just now will be allowed to stay in the country even after Brexit means Brexit. This was always going to be the case because there are hundreds of thousands of Brits living on mainland Europe who the UK government don't want uprooted. So anybody who voted to leave the EU on the basis of immigration is a complete ****wit. They were sold a pig in a poke fantasy and the gullible ****s believed the **** they were peddled. They probably also believed the NHS would get an extra 35 million a month. Given the fact that Brexit is likely to see an initial bang on the British economy that will see a rise in unemployment then the self preservation you speak of was actually self immolation.

    Go figure eh. Stupid Nigel.

    Ftfy.

You think leaving the world's biggest trading bloc, and shutting our doors to immigration, is going to result in improved pay and conditions for low skilled workers? You really believe that? You think you'll have a future picking carrots for £12 an hour if all the Bosnians get sent home?

Not sure picking grapes out of one's ringpiece actually constitutes picking fruit?

On a serious note, the solution to low pay for unskilled workers is to raise the minimum wage to £10 an hour. Pretty ****ing simple really.

It's certainly what they were sold.

Problem is the numbers just don't stack up. 15-20 years ago our farming industry was in crisis because the young and children of farmers were not staying in the industry. At the time the average wage for farm workers was under £10k pa. We had an industry unable to pay more due to our supermarkets squeezing the life out of them and a desperate lack of workers. Eastern europeans didn't steal British workers jobs, they did the work that made our supermarket shop cheaper and allowed our agriculture exports to be competitive. We benefitted from sustained low food prices.

The building sector has a similar story but the difference was the lack of workers drove up pay to stupid levels. It got to the point that people in the city were quitting their jobs to become plumbers/electricians. The introduction of qualified eastern European workers blew a hole in it because the industry was taking the piss.

If we want to look at what cost UK citizens jobs and suppressed their wages then you need to look at the part of economy that is 80% of our productivity and not the 20%, the service sector. We have lost huge numbers of clerical jobs, banking and civil service in particular have removed a whole layer of assessment and clerical labour. Replaced by computer software, off shore call centres and austerity cuts. 500,000 public sector jobs lost in the last 10 years, over 200,000 banking jobs lost. All were well paid, previously secure jobs.

The replacement for these losses has been part time, zero hour and insecure growth of delivery for the likes of Amazon, deliveroo and Ocado.

The answer is to strengthen workers rights against the aggressive American companies like Uber and restore our public sector so it can deliver for the needs of the public. That includes training sufficent numbers of tradesman and nurses that we do not need to look overseas to fill vacancies.

Farm worker issue is on the cusp of becoming a non story thanks to automation and the government should help the shift so that no one needs to do such **** jobs.

Its almost as if Einstein was wrong and every action wont have an equal and opposite reaction such as influx of expelled British immigrants and loss of jobs created by foreign firms.

Thick Scot complains about Brexit but still has to be constantly reminded he didn't vote. Also thick Scot assumes leavers are worried about someone he terms Jonny Foreigner, the term itself demonstrates the level of stupidity in Scotland even further. Thank **** the thick Scot didn't vote, he was wrong about Scotland wanting Independence, oh yeah that word Independence, only a thick Scot would not understand the humour in that <laugh>

Archers it's simple, us thick Guardian readers just don't get it.

The foreigns are coming over here taking our jobs but at the same time also not working + taking benefits and free houses from good ol'English workers, salt of the earth chaps that have always wanted to work and never dreamt of spending their life sponging off others. Those people would all definitely be working full time and earning loads and loads of cash if those pesky foreigns hadn't come over here and taken their jobs.

Those same foreigns are also raping and stabbing everyone too, all of them, they queue up to stab people then rape them on a daily basis.

Oh and somehow it's the EU's fault that we have Bangladeshis here, and a bit of Tony Blairs too for some reason.

Now that we're free from the shackles of those horrible EU bureaucrats, the kind-hearted and caring Tory government that we have will definitely ensure everyone is paid loads of money to pick fruit. Just watch everyone's wages skyrocket. The cost of living might double, but that doesn't matter as we'll all be swimming in cash Scrooge McDuck style as those horrible Poles won't be fixing our plumbing anymore.

Trust me, Kev told me so <ok>

Mmmmm. As I understand it the piss takers who came here to sign on will be sent home if they are not working and restrictions will be put on the next generation and the generation after that and so on.
Don't see Romania and Poland having an economic boom anytime soon and the ones that have been here since 2005 could probably afford to buy a house outright for about £20k .
Unlimited cheap labour only suits employers.

You think you could run a van buy your own house in London and feed a family laying bricks or working as a plumber for £10 an hour or less ?

No, no one can. You can earn £70k in London and not afford your own house.

You're claiming plumbers/builders/etc... are charging less for their work, undercutting UK people. If they're charging less the general public are paying less?

    Same with fruit/childcare/cleaners/etc...

The government needs to put a decent minimum wage into law, people will employ whoever is best suited to the job, being English is a massive advantage as they speak the same language.

You're being angry with foreigners for the Tories' ****ishness.

4 Polish men share a 2 bed flat in London thus keeping the cost down then work as builders etc for much less than Londoners.
Also you having a good laugh at the myth of more rapes commited mainly by our overseas guests .

Number of rapes recorded by police in England and Wales leaps 31% in a year
