Main problem seemed to be your, now long standing, love of passing the ball around whilst forgetting the actual aim of the game is to score more goals than the opposition.

Sanchez will improve as he does appear to have the ability but you're just helping Bayern and letting him make his "learning mistakes" playing for you and not them. Same with Abrahams. Not a fan of the loan system.

Looks like you had a bad window as your defense looked dodgy and that puts pressure on your midfield and attack who have to spend too much time looking back as opposed to forward.

Anyway good luck as you're not one of the teams I would like to see go down.

    Yours is though :)

Seriously though, we have no cutting edge, no creativity and zero pace.

I thought the exact opposite. I thought our midfield was so poor, lacking leadership and urgency, thus putting pressure on our defence

Agree. You could see after 30mins the diamond wasn't working. I'm stumped that he didn't change things.

Like i keep on saying.....We are poor at the back and can have all the possession in the world, We had 62% and 4 shots on target and the toon 38% and 8 shots on target that shows we need defenders and always have needed defenders but was ignored......So as far as im concerned The Buck stops with Clem and another few losses will see him on borrowed time......

    Just got back in.

Knew it would be a poor performance when I saw Huw, Kaplan & Levein walking ahead of me to take their seats just before kick off.

The match itself for me was reminiscent of last year's home match against Hull, except that we only shipped one goal today.

Despite what some have been saying before the game - and then during the game on this thread - the defence wasn't the real problem, it was the attack - we are bereft of width, pace & penetration. Everything seems narrow, slow & pedestrian - if in doubt, foot on the ball and pass back......

Yes we had chances to have won - Mawson should have buried that header in the first half (Lascelles did for the Toon in the second half) whilst Abraham should have put his boot through the ball & lifted it - poor miss by him. That said, whilst I think a draw would have been a fair result, if either side "had" to win, then that was Newcastle.

As for Sanchez - he was like a curate's egg, good in parts. Yes there is certainly something about him, but there were way too many wayward passes. I wondered at times if the pace of British football was a surprise to him. Just let's say that if Clucas had played like that today, then he'd have been slated on this forum.

However, whilst taking Sanchez off was probably the right move, replacing him with Bony left us unbalanced and Newcastle started to control the midfield. So for the second successive home match, Clement's substitutions have backfired.

Personally, I'd have replaced Sanchez with Mesa, and brought Bony on for either Abraham or Ayew.

So 2 home games, 2 defeats, 0 goals for and 5 against. Another long season on the cards unless the Manager can get the new recruits, including Mesa, up to speed pdq....

Next week, I suspect that Clement will revert to 3 CBs - at least that system gives us some width.

Dai, those stats could suggest that with 62% possession and only 4 shots on target, that our "Offense" as the Yanks would say is more of a problem...... <cheers>

Well i would say that a team with just 38% possession and can get 8 shots on target is much worse....How many shots on target would they have had if they had the lions share of the game...

Well we had the lion's share and how many shots did we have on target?

The Toon were creative - we failed abysmally

Anyone know/have a theory as to why Mesa isn't featuring at all?

That we only had 4 shots against a "Championship" standard defence?

Just to clarify: Dummett - Lejeune - Mbemba - Yedlin. Our "Championship" defence is out on the injury table, most of these guys were our back-up.

You'll do fine this season once Sanches and Bony gel. Today could have gone either way clearly, it's easy to make too much out of it.
