From a simplistic fan's point of view - if the Poch way worked, let's go back to playing the Poch way. Now the question is, can the current coaching team coach that?
Okay having had some more time to mull it over I've decided it's the fault of the happy clappers. Not the fans, the ones on the seats. We played far better when we were given free scarves, not folded card.
But they weren't around last season. Which only means one thing. It's the song. That song is to blame.
I'm in Northam but I didn't hear any at half time. Significant at end tho. Me same; never boo ever but I'm ok if fans do after game finishes. Their call.
Unfortunately I agree after yesterday's debacle. I also think if he does indeed play tomorrow & is anywhere match fit, MP will agree as well. Lemina & VD could be great additions. So that's the back sorted. I'll leave the front problem to you guys!
Unlikely as they only played half of that song and yet we surely weren't 50% better than the last game. Unless Beddy is doing the calculations, perhaps...
Not a season ticket holder ( Not in the UK long enough to warrant it. always working abroad) but like to take my octogenarian father to games as a treat for the old boy, otherwise I go to see him and set up Laptop/TV and stream the game and we watch together. Considering the price of tickets I really feel there's little entertainment value at the moment and I'm put off going to the ground to watch the dross served up. Even asking the old man if he wanted to go(I buy the tickets) the answer is usually something along the lines of "expletive expletive footballers followed by another expletive waste of money!" I'm actually scared to take him if he has another attack of "Davis Hate" and attempts to invade the pitch and batter said player with walking stick! I was here for the tail end of last season and didn't see a match and now at the start of this one my desire to fork out £80 odd quid plus is slowly ebbing away. I'm a life long Saints fan but want to see something exciting for my money, just wondering if other fans are being turned off by the quality of football being offered and if this will start affecting attendances?
It's still the PL, regardless of what Saints do on the pitch. I think the attendances last year were pretty good throughout, and every Home game so far this season has been a sell out. It may do eventually but I doubt it would be this season.
Yesterday was pretty bad, but not really a surprise, at least to me. We played pretty much the same as we did so far in the season, only yesterday we ran into better opposition. I'm usually the type of guy who even in a good performances finds what we should do to perform even better, but now I really don't know what we should do to turn this around. We can't change the player, and there isn't some superstar in the team who in unfairly ignored and could change things around for us (maybe VVD could do that).. So we can only try to change the formation and not only cosmetically, because this one doesn't work with these player that we have. Maybe 4-4-2. We don't have any atacking mids so we don't need to shoehorn one. Let's for example try something like this Cedric - Stephens - Hoedt - Bertrand JWP - Romeu - Lemina - Tadić Gabbiadini - Long Concentrate on having a strong defensive unit, and launch early balls to Long and Manolo trough Tadić and JWP. Might not work, but at least it's radically different to the rubbish that we're playing now.
I'm more than happy to try and that. Even more so once Virgil is back. Virgil spraying balls out to JWP, to quickly whip them in for Gabbi and Long to tap or head home. Tadic and Bertrand linking up on the left, like they're good at.
I don't disagree with changing formation. We look so weak with 4-2-3-1. No pace and no power and no creativity going forward. And let's face it half the league wouldn't know how to deal with 4-4-2 these days it's so out of fashion. Of course mope might not know much about it either.... Keep doing what we are doing and expect the same outcome.
Like any other formation is a novelty. Actually, as no one is playing 4-4-2 any more, it might shock some teams.
While I'd be happy to see us try something else, our lack of power, pace and creativity isn't a result of the formation.
Which leaves either he players or the coach. Can't change the players (we can't change the squad) and surely too early to change the coach. Unless I've missed something.
Not many universes away from this one, Pellegrino and Silva were in opposite dug outs on Saturday. Watford probably won that game 2-0 as well. It's almost all about the players.
I too think Gabbi & Long might be better than a Charlie & Gabbi option. Anyway regardless, something better change or we will be down the sewer. Sorry got a bit carried away there with Stranglers puns.
