This, though we could perhaps stand to sell to free up space. I'd have happily moved on the likes of Tadic in the summer and brought in two attacking players, rather than bringing in just the one.
Think the £35 million spent on Hoedt and Lemina showed we don't need to sell before we buy. We also don't need anymore defenders.
Defence is the absolute least of our problems right now. The No goals scored stats are quite extraordinary. While the whole team contributes to that it's the attacking midfield that is clearly useless.
That's a good shout. We desperately need some forward zip from the supporting midfield. I'm really at a loss as to what the real problem is but I have a sneaking suspicion MP1 & probably Koeman would get them ticking. Very early days for MP(2) but he certainly needs to identify the problem, which he clearly didn't today (or the players aren't actioning his plans?) & get us moving on the front foot & so much quicker. Ps. I was right behind FF for the 2nd. Very slow to get down. Admittedly it seemed to bounce just in front of him but he was so slow, that didn't matter.
What ever people say Puel had to go whether Reed wanted it or not. Puel had lost the players and lost alot of the fans. You can't come back from that, so it was best for both when Puel went. But MP has come in with the exact same problems attacking wise.
[QUOTE="VocalMinority, post: 10939794, member: Our tactic: Receive the ball, take a touch, if nobody has come to you, jog forward until you are surrounded by players then either continue running into the player and lose the ball or turn around and pass it backwards. .[/QUOTE] This, this, this.
If this Saints team is anything like the one I grew up watching, we'll lose all of those but tonk United 4-0 in the middle.
No disagreement; I think that the circumstances were hard on Puel, but there might not have been any coming back. Choosing another defense-first coach to sort out our flimsy attack was a deeply weird choice, however.
So why do you think we didn't buy a really class AM in the transfer window? If we had the funds from a VVD sale we could have bought a truly ball-busting record smashing AM? No?
Don't know why you quoted me - I've made no comment on the rest of the team yet. I just said the defence wasn't good in reply to someone who said it was.
I blame @Skylarker... ****ing jinx In seriousness poorest I've seen us for a long time, credit to Watford they had a gameplan and we simply had no answer to it. Blue line under that one me thinks, certainly concerns but not panic stations yet. Atmosphere was shocking, was in block 42 and almost impossible to get a song started, highlight possibly starting off 'we had a shot' song. Probs says it all about the game and atmosphere tbh Can't wait for Palace next week to be part of an away crowd. Good to see a few faces at the pub though they looked shocked when I brought Sky along Up the ****ing Saints.
Personally I'm gonna check the timetable to see when the next anti-Les Reed bandwagon comes rolling by. We can't keep blaming managers and players. Save for the Van Dijk affair this summer, Les has mishandled way too many major things at the club in recent years, and now it is all really coming back to bite us in the arse.
Hard to argue with any of that. I wanted Silva too. I wonder if interviewed, why they didn't go for him.
Our midfield was over run. Our wingbacks where contained. Therefore, our whole attacking strategy was completely snuffed out. It also seemed to me, that Forster was slow reacting to both shots, that's my opinion anyway.
Maybe my comment isn't very clear? What I'm really asking is in hindsight was it wise to keep a disgruntled player rather than cash in and buy a true proven quality AM? Maybe MP2 will sort out how we are currently playing and this will be a moot point. Lets hope so!
