Having slept on it, this was down to Leo's lack of knowledge about the championship. His team selection was completely wrong, when the team was announced it was clear we were very light in midfield, and so it proved. 1. I don't know what Henriksen bring to any game, he just is total ineffective. 2. Meyler and even Clark would have given better defensive cover to the back four. 3. Grosicki should have been substituted after 30 minutes total waste of a shirt. To be a kind to Leo with all the changes this was always likely to happen, he should have had the majority of his team settled in pre-season. He needs to be given time to understand the championship and get his best team sorted out.
From what I could tell we matched Derby's formation. They had Thudd and Johnson in midfield we had Henriksen & Larrson. We were maybe a little light in midfield but when looking at both teams, man for man we looked at least equal. There's no way we shouldnt have been able to give them a good game. For whatever reason it just didnt work. There's no way we should be winning 4-0 one week and losing 5-0 the next.
henriksen should never play for us again. utterly useless meyler should be first name on the teamsheet
Meyers contribution last night was four misplaced passes and two shots over the bar - he certainly isn't the answer, unfortunately neither is Larsson or Henricksen
Let's hope Leo has them on the training pitch today and tomorrow and works on shape and formation. Because that was as embarrassing as it will ever get. I wasn't impressed at all by Kingsley, let's hope it was the above that made it difficult for him. Hector needs it repeating in his ear, you're not baresi your not beckanbeaur, youre not a Chelsea star, you're a journeyman who needs a club and how to play as a cb. Not some casual libero. Toral. Where was he? I saw him sit,on his arse and sulk towards the end as he was knocked off the ball. Not a good sign. Aina. Let's just give Lenihan a go at rb. At least he's ours. Try Aina rm. he's a liability at the back. Dawson must be pulling his hair, out trying to Marshall hector and Aina. The way hector ran out for the second was appalling. Why sign Toral to play henriksens position?? Dicko. I can't form any judgement on him. Though he didn't win anything in the air. Is he a centre forward or a wide man. Best game dio has had and we drop him. Poor management that. Good effort from turbos cross tho, got across his man well. Leo needs to learn fast. Play that formation and personnel away from home and Burton and Bolton will stuff us. Totally unbalanced side.
This is what we bought Stewart, if he can get fit, then he will make a difference in midfield in this area. Meyler has his faults, but at least he gets about the opposition and gives it 100%, unlike the majority of who was on the pitch last night. P.S. You can see why previous club mainly used Turbo as an impact sub, generally over 90 minutes he is a waste of a shirt.
We won our last game 4-0, the system quite obviously suited the players, binning it completely just because Mazuch was out and we'd got a few new bodies in, was a bad mistake. No idea why Larsson's getting so much ****, he's been good for us so far, just had a mare last night. Henriksen should be nowhere near our starting XI, there's no position on the pitch where there isn't a better option. Leonid needs to get his arse in gear and quickly, we've got Fulham next and they're better than Derby.
Richard Gibson (Daily Mail) - 'Hull look like a team that's been thrown together with little planning or foresight.Which, funnily enough, is exactly what's happened'.
That's just lazy journalism. Slutsky chose to drop two of our longer serving players to give debuts to two new players. If they weren't drilled enough that's down to him. None of the back four were away on international duty were they? They looked like they'd never met.
To be fair, I don't think Larsson has been given so much ****, except for the obvious on his penalty. I replied to a post that asked why he wasn't taking set pieces, the rest is history. Beyond my comments when he first joined, last night was the first time I have made any further comment on him. I thought he was ineffectual last night, but so were the rest and I laid that at the door of the manager, who you are right to blame for getting it wrong. Larsson may cut it at this level, all of my assessment was at PL level, where his pace on the wing disappeared, his ability in midfield was inadequate and his set-piece delivery went from excellent to poor - if it were back up to scratch in training I am certain he would be on the ball. The manner in which he took his penalty was a big hint why he isn't, but anyone who has watched him over the last couple of seasons would know that. But that observation should be kept in perspective, as previous performances have been okay, by all accounts, and last night's was impossible to pick out amongst the clusterfuck of selection and performance. I still have my doubts about him, but it's like blaming Dawson for the defensive shambles - pointless.
Didn't go, didn't watch it, didn't even listen to it Seems that was the right choice! Certainly looks like we'll be seeing a lot of goals this season...in total anyway
Good post.. Perhaps the Marshall dislikers (I won't call them haters) might look at him from a different perspective. From what I saw of the game (1st half only) McGregor didn't cover himself in glory, though, in fairness to him, he didn't have a lot to do, except for picking the ball out of the net, which he did very well. The free kick was pants. He was telling the wall to stay in one position, then decided to move himself at the last second, therefore taking the weight off his feet at the side were the ball was going. Too late to adjust ..Idiot...The man does it every time, but either he doesn't learn from his mistakes or no one tells him to stay on his tiptoes...
But they did both accept the job knowing who they were working with and accepting the fact that we'd be dependent on loans while also seeing the willful shipping out of players like Livermore, Jakopovich and others who have just not had great replacements, which in turn has weakened our defensive capacity.
Meyler has heart and determination in spades. Should be first name on team sheet. And one of the shots you so easily dismiss grazed the top of the bar - the closest we got all game.
We debated whether to go and watch down the pub or actually go to the match, unfortunately we decided to go to the match. But the most entertainment I had all night was watching their pathetic stewards run up and down the stands telling everyone to sit down etc. when all the Derby fans in the adjoining stand were all standing with no interference from the stewards. Still our fans had fun mocking themselves and our team with some very amusing chants, let's just hope that Leonid can sort out our pathetic defense in time for the next game!
