There were a large number of council elections yesterday, and looking at the results it would appear that the voters placed their trust in anyone but the Tories. Labour, Lib Dems and Greens all won seats from them.

Actually it was quite a lot, and the only reason I know about it was because the results were given in the national press. Of course your favourite sources of information would not wish to report such loss of face. Still good to see that one of them could soon disappear.

Please supply the report as there seems to be complete non interest amongst the majority of the press.

Do your own research. Council elections do not give a true indication of what the country feels, but to see a general trend does have something to say.

I thought so, this is one of your 'made up' stories. Your desperation is getting the better of you.

I can print the actual state of seat and councils in the UK if you like but it will just show a domination by the Tories, especially in England.

Just because it is not laid out before you you think it did not happen. No I did not make it up, and an apology is called for.

Are you sure about this Frenchie? I don't think we've had council elections since May have we?

Absolutely fine, show me the article where 'a large number of council elections' occurred yesterday with the results as you proclaimed and I am more than willing to offer a grovelling apology immediately. If you cannot do this you need to apologise to the forum for your 'fake news' posting.

There were certainly a couple in Scotland yesterday.

Shocking turn-outs though - 23% in one in Glasgow, which tends to suggest that Frenchie is correct that they don't give a true indication of what the country feels.

A couple does not make 'a large number'

He claimed the results were given in the national press.

I have checked the following national press, they all have one thing in common, a complete absence whatsoever of this misleading post.

    Morning Star
    Daily Mirror
    The Sun
    The Independent
    Reuters
    The Guardian
    Daily Mail
    Daily Express
    The Times
    The Observer

Is there a 'fake news' daily? I must have missed it.

OFH I didn't think you would be able to locate your guiding article. You should stand by the phone as such an ability to spin a 'story' like that from a couple of council elections in Glasgow is quite something. I would at least expect a call from Disney for their next blockbuster or maybe from Boris to come up with something for his next battle bus. :emoticon-0105-wink:

Not only have you called me a liar, you have also said you cannot read. BB is right that a couple were in Scotland, but there were a lot more in England.
Yes Theo, they were all by-elections for council seats.

Still not able to produce your evidence. This was such a tiny number of council elections that all of the nationals ignore them. To extrapolate these into 'a large number' is clearly false. I cannot see how it could be a mistake, you need to apologise for deliberately peddling false information.

I am quite prepared for you to keep digging your hole a bit deeper before pointing to it. Keep going.

I thought you had more integrity than that. This forum cannot function properly if some posters are so desperate to push their point of view that they cross the line. We should be able to accept 'facts' at least somewhere near the truth. Mistake can happen but most unlikely in this instance.

It is a bit strange if the MSM aren't reporting it - Tories losing seven of the nine seats they 'defended'. Had the SNP lost them, and lost them as heavily as the Tories did, we'd be hearing about it all day and every day until the next elections.

Looks as if the government is being hauled before the High Court again, this time over their deal with the DUP. The case will be heard next month.

The basis of the claim is that any political agreement between the government and the DUP is in breach of the Good Friday agreement under which the government undertook to exercise its power in Northern Ireland “with rigorous impartiality on behalf of all the people in the diversity of their identities and traditions”. The legal challenge also argues that the political deal breaches the Bribery Act 2010 and is in any event unlawful as a corrupt arrangement. McClean the person leading the crowdfunded action said, in his view, that the agreement was “no more and no less than the purchase by the government of votes in parliament using public money.
