I don't understand the benefits of having a "permanent world class athletics stadium", there's not enough interest in athletics to justify it. At least Liverpool offered a viable solution for the stadium after the games had finished.

The plan was actually for the our stadium to be converted for temporary athletics use a year after we opened it in 2021

In December mate. I would just like them to get on with the new Dock stadium as soon as possible. The longer deliberation goes on, the more chance Joe has of messing it up <laugh>

I think the government are looking at spreading around the 'world class facilities' a bit. Manchester, as a NW city, has a few already.

No chance there Tobes. The state would clearly have partly funded the stadium.

Nope. The council were going to pay for the alterations for the games, and are still paying for the access roads. It's all out there in the public domain.

There's far too much money to be made for this to go tits now mate. The stadium is the catalyst for the entire North Docks project, and Joe has greased the wheels nicely ;)

He's got previous, so expect the unexpected with Joe. He didn't even have the foresight to manage his own transition from mayor to MP properly. I have some respect for him because he does a lot of good and has been marvellous with all things Hillsborough related but he is also very naïve in certain areas.

yeaaahhhhh.... 50mil down to pan on our books suggests that assuming cos there's some money in that its will happen is not the best.

they have to get on with it.

The difference is the stadium is the catalyst for the development of the North Docks, which means there's plenty of serious people waiting to make some serious dosh out of the entire project.

The north docks might survive nicely without a stadium but we are all supportive. Its just a point that comes from experience.

Everton spending its money on plans could be similar to off spending money on plans... except of course now theres so much money you can afford it. We could not in 2008

You'd think they'd put it in Newcastle or somewhere similar if that were the case.

Only you didn't spend £50m on plans ffs <laugh>

The North Docks has had planning for nearly 5 years and virtually **** all has happened, the stadium is the catalyst as it's brought council backing and the infrastructure of the road changes with it for a start off.

The funding model has little to do with the current TV revenue explosion in the PL. The repayments will be largely covered by a naming rights deal and the remainder by part of the revenue increase generated by a much larger stadium, with far more corporate etc.

The "funding model" is Moshiri takes out a massive loan and gets Everton to repay it

The funding model is that the council takes out a massive cheap loan and the football club repays it.

Not sure what you mean mate. Liverpool and Birmingham both put bids in, no other UK city did. The government aren't building the stadiums for the games, Birmingham will renovate an existing athletic site into a top class stadium and have other 'outstanding' proposals. Liverpool will have the Dock stadium and planned on outdoor swimming facility and other random proposals. Birmingham were seen as the better option for what will be left behind after the games I guess.

The funding model is you pay less interest to bankers and pay it to the council instead, and that the council takes your TV and gate money and gives you back what's left as pocket money

It's the Central Docks that have the plans waiting mate. The North Docks development is linked with the games coming to Liverpool. The Nelson Dock next to the BM Dock was/is to be the athletes village.

    June 2017 -
The north end of Liverpool Waters would have been among the last sites to be developed. But a successful Commonwealth Games bid could speed up the development of that area.
The proposed Bramley Moore Dock Stadium would in itself spark more development in and around the north docks.
But if Liverpool won the Games, the council would build an athletes’ village to the south at Nelson Dock. Those flats could then be sold on after the games, creating another residential district.

The council get a nice tickle and we still end up paying less than we would of done had we borrowed the cash as a football club, due to the extremely cheap rates the council can borrow at.

The council get **** all from the gate receipts or TV money you plum.
